Nina is cool

intheLiffey · 23/02/2009 10:45

Magnus - I like this. Also like Fergus and Angus.
Dexter - ok, sounds like a baddie from supermand. What about lennox ?
Flint - no.
Anselm - no.

and

Alta - no, it's a word in spanish and I can't get beyond that.
Anouska - quite like this. best on your girls list.
Uma - no yuck. Uma thurman. I've always pitied her that disgusting and weird name.

Magnus and Anouska definitely. I also like Agneska (sp) and Nina and Elsa and Jeannie which might appeal to your style?

@ your brother!

Agree with Dexter - serial killer. (which is bad because I hadn't thought of it til someone mentioned it the other day, and I have a new baby in the family called Dexter).

Anouska I love

EachPeachPearMum · 23/02/2009 08:47

Well, I like some of your choices, but I am biased!

I would be so very cross with your brother too

On our list this time were:
Cecily Margot
Beatrix
Aurelia

What about
Ilse
Ingrid
Greta

Thorsten
Linus
Karsten
?

Ouch. That's pretty tough. I hope that you either find another a girls name that you like much much more, or have a boy, because I wouldn't want you feeling sad once your little one is here.

Here is a link to my favourite name site for Swedish names, some of which I was quite surprised by like Cecilia www.behindthename.com/nmc/swe.php

I'm slightly ashamed to say that I like the really Norse names, like Brunhild and Gudrun, but I'm not sure if I'd ever use one. However we have used an Old English name for our son, and I think it is cool to have a name with history.

Of your names Anselm is excellently unusual, and I like Anouska too.

dinkymum · 22/02/2009 23:06

not too sure about girl choices maybe Alta as a middle name as i'm all for middle names with meanings, for boys Magnus and Dexter are nice!

atowncalledalice · 21/02/2009 21:09

All but Flint. Anselm is gorgeous, and I really like Alta.

dragonbutter · 21/02/2009 20:48

i like Magnus.
I prefer Ansel to Anselm after the photographer ansel adams.

my favourite from your girls list is alta.

Oh, Lena is nice. Is it pn Leena or Lay-na?

loobylu3 · 21/02/2009 20:34

Try this link. I think there are lots of nice ones.

www.babynames.org.uk/swedish-baby-names.htm

My sister in law is Swedish. She is Katarina which is pretty and classic but there are others which will sound more unusual in the UK if you prefer. Good luck!

eyeeye · 21/02/2009 20:30

if you have a girl call her Astrid .. he doesn't own the name.

However I like Lena

Poor you! That is awful of him and I hope you have told him so!!
I like Magnus a lot for a boy. I wouldn't use Uma unless you have Indian connections as it is a traditional Sanskrit name and, as far as I know not at all Swedish/ German.
Quite like Anoushka.
I suspect you are just feeling negative about names because of what your brother has done. There are so many beautiful Swedish names!!

I don't really like Dexter (makes me think of the serial killer TV forensic) and Flint is awful.

But the rest are decent names. Do you have a Scandinavian link?

eyeeye · 21/02/2009 19:25

I don't like any of them unless you happen to live in a Scandinavian country in which case they're fine.

evamummy · 21/02/2009 19:23

From your list I like

Magnus
Anselm
Anouska
Uma

Not keen on Dexter or Alta at all...

MadameCastafiore · 21/02/2009 19:10

We had the same problem for our kids as we have a common single syllable surname and you have to, I think, have a l;ong name for a girl with lots of syllables to avoid them sounding harsh.

Therefore we had Harriet for DD, but we named DS Max as we though a 1 syllable first and second name was quite manly.

I don't mind Magnus or Dexter and Anouska but the other ones are pretty dire!

InTheScrum · 21/02/2009 19:07

I don't mind Magnus or Uma, but dislike the others. Sorry.

deste · 21/02/2009 19:05

I know a Dexter and when he was young was so cute. It is a really trendy name. I like Uma.

shootfromthehip · 21/02/2009 18:45

I like Magnus and anouska
