Honestly, for real. Belonged to a little girl at acting class. FFS!!!!

Indeed. I have an unusual name myself, but Boudicca really makes a statement I think. I remain unsure about Caractacus though! It makes a good sound in the mouth, but possibly better for a pet!

howmanytimesdoihavetotellyou · 15/02/2009 20:23

Yay, nooka, it must be the same family - it was around blackheath, greenwich area. I think my sister knew the little girl slightly. ooh how weird (she says again). Is that an advantage of an unusual name - random srangers can remember they heard of you thirty years ago!

nooka · 15/02/2009 20:14

I dunno. To be honest they were children that my mum knew more than I did (she taught and was very active in the community) and it was thirty years ago. It's quite possible that they were white and I'm getting muddled. They would have lived in the Blackheath/Lewisham/Greenwich area. It just seems too much of a coincidence - I can't believe there are many families with both a Boudicca and a Caractacus!

howmanytimesdoihavetotellyou · 15/02/2009 19:41

Hi Nooka, the ages would fit, but did you say they were Afro Caribbean? the family I knew of were white - which makes it even spookier Do you remember if 'your' Caractacus was called Crac for short?

nooka · 15/02/2009 19:32

That is very weird. I think that they must be the same family, as I'm from South London! I didn't know them well, but I'd guess they would maybe be in their thirties possibly early fourties now?

WorzselMummage · 15/02/2009 15:52

I know one who had shortened it to Boudi which i have always thought was really cool !

howmanytimesdoihavetotellyou · 15/02/2009 12:31

Ooh, weird Nooka, I knew of a family with a Boudicca (called Boo) and a Caractacus in South London in the early 70s (think he might have been called crac!)

mollyroger · 15/02/2009 10:54

I think there are far worse names. I rather like it, esp pron. bodicca.
I like it better than Mary say, or Anne.

Frasersmum123 · 15/02/2009 10:47

Awful, Just awful

TooFoggy · 14/02/2009 16:55

Actually, its probably a pretty good name for a teacher's child. It must be hard having taught so many children to find something. Expecially good for a history teacher if they get the correct spelling!

Podrick · 14/02/2009 16:43

I expect that was just her pet name

LadyOfWaffle · 14/02/2009 16:27

I don't think it's awful, just rare. She is very famous...

tootyflooty · 14/02/2009 16:03

One of the teachers at my ds school has a dd with that name, but she is known as Bow. it is a little unusual and I have never come across it other than in the historical sense.
I wouldn't have thought she would get teased about it, as you would have to know the history of the name, and most people who would take the p---, probably wouldn't have that much intelligence. She may get comments along the lines of it being unusual. it is a Difficult name to carry off especially if she turns out to be a shy and private type of person.

wotulookinatasquotedinTheTimes · 14/02/2009 15:38

ridiculous

LynetteScavo · 14/02/2009 15:37

It sounds like you live in Notting Hill.

TooFoggy · 14/02/2009 15:32

Great name, love it! Wouldnt inflict it on a child of mine tho. Hmmm maybe a middle name...

MrsMattie · 14/02/2009 09:17

LOL!@Boudiccea!

I did have a moment where I thought Cleopatra was a contender for DD, though

nooka · 14/02/2009 04:42

The Boudicca I knew was a feisty Afro-Caribean kid, and it was a great name for her. I don't like the Latinised version much (cool for a pet though).

Sheeta · 13/02/2009 22:45

I like it actually...

BikeRunSki · 13/02/2009 22:38

Strong female historical name.

TheSmallClanger · 13/02/2009 22:17

Very silly. There are plenty of perfectly good, unambiguously pronounced queen/empress names around.

RiaParkinson · 13/02/2009 22:17

i wanted to call ds5 this had he not been ds5

Clary · 13/02/2009 22:14

They are wrong anyway, it should be Boudicca if they are thinking of the Iceni queen.

brimfull · 13/02/2009 02:13

she just had to be at acting class didn't she..lol

KittyBigglesworth · 13/02/2009 01:33

Yeh, I though historians established some time ago that it should be pronounced Boo-dik-ha not BO-DOH-CE-A. Jeez, if you're doing pretentious, at least do it right.

I bet she's a feisty little soul though isn't she? She'd have to be with that name. Do you remember that girl band called CLEOPATRA, their catchphrase was "CL-EO-PAT-RAH, COMIN' ATCHA" LOL, it reminds me a bit of that as in "BOO-DES-E-AAH, feel the fearrrr" said in an equally impetuous/cutesy irratating, 'don't mess with me' way.

I must refrain from so much inane drivel. Apologies. Off to bed.
