Twin girls names to go with Sophia

HeyYou · 07/02/2009 16:20

Help! I'm expecting twin girls and I am really struggling with names. First and second names please! We already have a Sophia Elizabeth.

As a guide, I'm not keen on twin names with alliteration i.e. Sam & Sue or rhyming names i.e Sam & Pam. We have a complicated surname so classic names are best.

I find girls names so hard!! Although I know what I like and what I don't when I hear it - iykwim! Boys names on the other hand I find a doddle!

Sorry, haven't read whole thread so apologies for repitition, but from the bit I saw at the beginning it looks like we have really similar taste in names. Our shortlist was almost identical to yours for DD2. We ended up with Emily Alice. DD1 is Madeleine Sophia.

Our other two shortlisted for DD2 were Alexandra and Georgia. Alexandra lost out as we couldn't agree on shortened form and Georgia because of the spat with Russia, which kicked off alongside labour .

Here are others on our shortlist.

Isabelle
Freya
Eve
Charlotte
Lucy
Anna/Annabelle
Harriet
Claudia
Sarah
Martha
Clementi ne/Clemency
Eleanor
Louisa

I agree - boys' names are SO much easier!

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/02/2009 10:35

I meant euphonically.

As Sophia is Greek why not go with other claiscal Greek names?

Absolutely agree - my dd is called Sophia, if I ever had another dd I would have loved to call her Iris, Ariadne or Hebe. Never going to have another dd so can I live vicariously through you!!!

I have not greek background however find Greek names euphically very beautiful. I also love the names Calypso, Elektra and Artemis as well, but agree that they are a bit off the wall!

Sophia Elizabeth and

Helena Jane?
Louisa Marie?

twinmam · 17/02/2009 20:57

I think it is inevitable that they will be called 'the girls' a lot but think that is somehow better than 'the twins'! My DTs are Isabella Charlotte and Rebecca Elizabeth, shortened to Bella and Becca. Seems like we have similar taste in names sweetkitty!

rachels103 · 17/02/2009 20:45

No name advice I'm afraid...I'm lurking here looking for inspiration myself, but something to think about maybe.

My nieces are twin girls and have 3 syllables in each of their first names, which has caused them to be referred to as 'the girls' a lot. They are lovely names but a real mouthful to say together.

sweetkitty · 17/02/2009 12:08

Something timeless like

Elizabeth and Charlotte
Abigail also nice

I have 3 girls and wanted them all to have different names, no three A names for instance

My virtual twin girls would be
Elodie and Isabella

dairymoo · 17/02/2009 12:03

All those names and it didn't even include my favourite - Juliette.

Also works well with Sophia - but I do love Clementine as well.

I love the suggestion of Clementine and Florence - beautiful, timeless names, and they go very well with Sophia.

KristinaM · 10/02/2009 18:49

if you don't want the names sounding like a set or "twinny" then you might want to avoid the 3 syllable names ending with "a" sound.

So rules out lovely names like

Lydia
Allegra
Julia

what about the ones ending in consonants

Eleanor
harriet
Isobel
Esther
Miriam

Though i must admit i DO like

Freya
Lucy
felicity
verity
Zoe
Alexandra
Anna
Eloise
Serena
Faye

BumblBeee · 10/02/2009 18:31

Clementine Rose

Esme Josephine

choosyfloosy · 10/02/2009 07:44

also consider Clemency?

Clementine/Clemency Grace
Clementine Hope

and Helen or Helena? Like the Greek connection with Sophia. I actually prefer not too many 'a's but obv it's - erm - up to you!

Helen Felicity
Helen Josette

EsmeWatson · 10/02/2009 07:35

Congrats on your twins. Twin girls are delighful! Mine are Charlotte and Eliza but I also adore Arabella and Francesca for twins. I think they go beautifully with Sophia as well.

tkband3 · 09/02/2009 12:44

No suggestions, but some thoughts for you...

I have 3 girls - DD1 and DTs. All 3 girls have 4 letter names - by accident rather than design, but it does mean that they have all learned to write and spell their names early so the suggestion of having similar length names is a good one.

Also, DD1's name ends in 'a', as does DT2's. We were tempted by Freya for DT1, but, decided we didn't want all three ending in 'a', so DT1's name ends in 'ie'.

For middle names, each girl has a family name - DD1 has a name which happened to be in both families, DT1's middle name is DH's mum's name and DT2's is my mum's name.

Oh and congratulations on your twins .

alibubbles · 09/02/2009 12:37

Sophia, Harriet and Charlotte, - my D's names in a different order!

throckenholt · 09/02/2009 12:30

we would have had Clare Frances and Sarah something if our twins had been girls.

congrats by the way.

frostyfingers · 09/02/2009 12:23

No names to add, but just something you might find helpful...I have twin boys, Harry & Simon - there have been many occasions when I have wished that I'd given them names starting with the same initial so that when I yell for one I can pause for a moment and get it right rather than going Harry, no Simon or vice versa.... My favourite girls name is Charlotte, simple classic but not dull and can be shortened if you like (I don't!).
