Is Agatha hideous??!!

I love the name Agatha, it stirs up all sorts out fabulous Art Deco images for me and I imagine a daughter called Agatha to be all independence and intellect. However, every single person I've suggested this to has reacted either with a choked back giggle or a fingers down the throat look - is it my hormones? Is it truly hideous?!

I like Agatha. Fine name IMO.

Wouldn't go with Dorothy for a middle as too many 'th' sounds.

I think it can be said quite harshly - I do agree it would be a difficult name to live up to.

No I think it's perfectly normal to not be able to settle on a name easily. I don't think people would DARE make faces like that when you introduce your dc. I really don't see that happening.

I was looking for something inspirational for my daughter as opposed to musical but thanks for the advice!

What could I have as a middle name? I like Dorothy and Constance but they don't sit right.

Oh God, I do love it, I'm just terrified that the faces people make when I suggest it will be the faces people make when I introduce my daughter and I don't want to give her a complex!! Last time I picked a name and stuck to it, this time I'm all over the place - is this normal???!!

Isn't there another 'a' at the end? With that it will sound much nicer imo.

A short "a", a harsh "g" another short "a" and then "th". That isn't good, not a musical name in any case but you have to kow what you want I suppose

It doesn't SOUND at all nice though, does it? Say it outloud slowly a few times. Do you honestly like the sound?

I had a teddy bear namec Agatha. It is rather old fashioned. But if that doesn't bother you, then don't worry what other people think.

I love it. Many years ago, was walking through the Fitzwilliam Museum when a mum said to her son "Finbar, do hold Agatha's hand, there's a good boy". It was a delightful scene. Finbar and Agatha must be in their 20s now.

I like it. Strong grownup name, not mimsy and girly like so many girls' names. Also like Agnes and Edith for same reason....

Bertie Wooster's Great Aunt Agatha was so ferocious that she ate broken glass for breakfast. I love the name but just can't get past that
