Oh dear, the poor child.

SqueezyDiva · 11/03/2009 22:57

It's too 'Try-Hard'

audley · 26/01/2009 18:08

Fanjo, Uber-poncetastic is ringing loud alarm bells though , I thought it would be too little known to be on the scale, oh dear me...
I like the spaceship connection though

Hi Brangeline, I meant the nn Aqua is a colour, close to cyan, i.e blue-green!

Ein Bier bitte!

Brangelina · 26/01/2009 17:32

And my German skills only go as far as ordering food.

MissusLindt · 26/01/2009 17:30

Ah, sorry. My Italian language skills stop at ordering drinks

SpringySunshine · 26/01/2009 17:25

It was also a 90s kids' tv show about 2 boys who found a spaceship of that name.

Brangelina · 26/01/2009 17:20

It means eagle in Italian as well as Latin (pronounced Akweela with the emphasis on the A) and as Bucharest says it's also a town. It has no links with water, which is actually Acqua, there is no common root. We're you thinking it was a colour? Are you after a colour name in Italian?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 26/01/2009 17:15

im afraid IMHO it is uber-poncetastic!

saadia · 26/01/2009 17:13

It also sounds a bit like an Arabic girls' name meaning clever.

Divineintervention · 26/01/2009 17:12

I think it sounds very much like Attila, as in Hun.

audley · 26/01/2009 17:11

Yes, it is with one L in the bible, but I had seen it elsewhere with 2, but it has been pointed out that it's a girls name with two L's lol, so I would use Aquila.

MissusLindt, the water association doesn't bother me as we have no Italian links, I think of the colour more, and as I also like Blue, Red,Indigo and Violet as names I rather like it!

atowncalledalice · 26/01/2009 16:49

It's Aquila with one L.

MissusLindt · 26/01/2009 16:45

Aqua is water in Italian.

Would you call your DS Water? Even as a nickname?

Reminds me a bit of Akela, the boss cub scout leader.

Not keen, sorry.

CuppaTeaJanice · 26/01/2009 16:42

Aqua is ok, in an earth mother kind of way, but definitely for a girl.

LuLuBai · 26/01/2009 16:35
  1. eagle
  2. brand of beer

Nice enough sounding word but don't think it works as a baby name.

If you like the eagle thing and are looking for something not used very much how about Peregrine or Merlin. OK they are falcons but similar sort of thing.

Or if you want an easy way to choose your Chrismas cards for everymore call him Robin.

seeker · 26/01/2009 15:28

Why?

minouminou · 26/01/2009 15:11

I prefer the a-kee-la pronunciation, rather than the a-kwee-la version

audley · 26/01/2009 15:05

Oh thanks for that follderol. I didn't know. Aquila then.

OP posts:
Bucharest · 26/01/2009 15:03

It's a town in central Italy as well.
Please don't use it. Sounds awful.

follderol · 26/01/2009 15:02

according to www.babynamescountry.com/meanings/Aquila.html its a girls name with 2 Ls and its latin for eagle

follderol · 26/01/2009 15:02

it's horrible

seeker · 26/01/2009 15:00

All names that end in A sound girly.
