I think she is joking sort of but she was really vile to me today in front of a few of our relatives and said well if you call her that she will not be coming to my house and I'm taking back the outfit I bought her,she made herself look stupid tbh because everyone looked at her like she was a loon.

I haven't even decided on it but we really like he Violet but want the middle names Elsie Grace (yes I know they spell out VEG) but we wont really use Elsie it is just down to the fact that my Grandma has around 18 GC and GGC and noone has used her name and I do think it is a pretty name .

She has no issues with Grandma so thats not it just the fact she is a control freak and wanted me to call the baby Daisy .

Is it a really vile name it's not is it and I realise her initals spell out Veg I suppose I could find another name rather than Grace .

I am not ignoring any replies BTW just going for a quick bath.

LOve the name Violet
Violet Elsie Lydia is beautiful

YOur mother is acting bonkers.
My Momspeant weeks trying to talk me out of my choice (Thea) and to have Imogen instead (a lovely name but we know of an Imogen and that Big Brother series with Imogen had just been on). I had DS2 anyway! But I was very upset by her obviously not liking my choice.

RachieB · 25/01/2009 19:18

I do not like the name Violet

BUT your mum was way out of order!

ok if she doesnt like your choice, she can say ,but not in such a nasty way !

moondog · 25/01/2009 10:12

Violet is gorgeous.
Unlike your mum.
(Work on the veg thing though, defoo.)

DesperateHousewifeToo · 25/01/2009 10:02

Love Violet.

Dd's middle names are 'Elsie Rose' so, of course, I'm biased

mumoverseas · 25/01/2009 09:46

Think Hectate summed it up pretty well!
Maybe if you are worried about the VEG thing switch the two middle names around. DON'T lose the Grace, its a beautiful name (I am biased as my gorgeous DD aged 2 is Grace)
Your mum surely has to be joking?

pulapula · 25/01/2009 08:53

I should make my message clearer- I am expecting another baby (DS2) ATM.

pulapula · 25/01/2009 08:51

Sounds like your mum is sulking because she wanted to pick the name (Daisy). I don't think GPs have a right to do so (they named their own children) and it will be her loss if she follows through her threat.

I was expecting some ridiculous name that she could have taken offence at, but Violet is lovely.

I don't worry too much about initials either. Our DD (including surname) is KLF which we thought was quite funny and only those people of our generation would even know the KLF anyway!

When i told my mum we were thinking of Charlie for a boy, she didnt like it at all ("proper Charlie" and all that) and she then said "well we'd better hope its a girl then!". It's not lol, but we still haven't chosen the name for sure yet.

ToAMountainDAISYcal · 24/01/2009 20:18

It's a lovely name and your mum sounds unhinged I'm afraid.

Can you change the order so it doesn't spell Veg?

I added a name in for my DS1 so he wouldn't have the initials CJD!

6 kids though...respect

pmsl at geepers ....sorry

ComeWhineWithMe · 24/01/2009 20:16

Thanks all I have been talking about it with DP and have come up with some other middle names so what do you think be honest .

Violet Elsie Lydia -thats both Grandmas then

Violet Elsie Rose.

Violet is a lovely name. We will be naming our dd Violet Rose in about 12 weeks time so Im really pleased I read this thread as it has made me feel even better about the name. My SIL and Mother think its lovely name but my father, FIL and MIL all detest the name so it had made me a little worried what other people would think. In fact when we told MIL her reply was well I will just call her Jessica (which is the name that was under discussion previously!

MrsWeasley · 24/01/2009 20:05

Sounds like she is trying to bully you into doing what she wants.

Violet is a lovely name

naturalbornmum · 24/01/2009 20:04

Lovley name - but agree with flippimg middle names around. My mother sais that she would'nt babysit I had another DC - guess what I am.

SweetEm · 24/01/2009 20:04

I think Violet is a lovely name.

My Mum didn't like the name we chose for our ds, but I decided I didn't need her approval at my age and she's had to get used to it! Stick with Violet!

Nancy66 · 24/01/2009 20:04

It's a great name - really love it.
I don't get why people get so stressed by what initials spell, I doubt if anybody apart from the parents ever make the connection.

Better than Vag !

Northernlurker · 24/01/2009 20:02

There's nothing wrong with your names and your mum needs to grow up!

I have compelled my mother-in-law to admit (as I suspected) that she wasn't too keen on dd1's name. Like the sensitive adult that she is she knew it was none of her business and kept quiet. Now of course she loves it!

lottiejenkins · 24/01/2009 19:50

When i called my ds Wilfred and rang my Mum to tell her there was such a long silence on the phone i thought we had been cut of then i could hear her saying "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii i'll have to get used to that name" I replied "yes you will Mum" and not another word has ever been said!!

belcantwait · 24/01/2009 19:48

blimey your mother is cer-azzzy. my grans name was violet and its so so pretty. wish so much we had called dd that name. think you should try and avoid the VEG initials tho if at all possible

BabyBaby123 · 24/01/2009 19:42

don't worry about it - she's trying to excerise a bit of control!

My dad said he would never call my ds by his name and called him baby for quite some time, I also similiar with the in laws with my dd's name when they called her by a completely different name for a few weeks Best just to ignore it - she will come round - just make her feel like she's being really pathetic and immature is my advise!!

troutpout · 24/01/2009 19:38

'result' then maybe?
if she's that vile maybe it's good excuse not to visit!

SgianDubh · 24/01/2009 19:33

it is a nice name,
and no problem with veg, she will have a surname after that so, for eg. vegb

how many times do you say the initials anyway?

Dropdeadfred · 24/01/2009 19:26

I gave my dd1 the middle name ELISE an anagram of my grandmother's name ELSIE

PlainOldPeachy · 24/01/2009 19:22

bung in a further name- violet rose elsie grace

won't hurt a soul

and tell your Mum she's out of order

Ignore your mother, but do change around the middle names to prevet VEG.

Tinker · 24/01/2009 19:17

It was my mum's name so that would have been a very understandable odd thing for her to have said (She hated it) But, it's tres trendy now (Corrie barmaid, Incredibles) so of course your mum's mad.
