It is a lovely name but... I work with two Carey's, one male & one female. They both constantly have to correct the pronounciation of their names, they're mainly called "Carrie" or "Kerry" as mentioned earlier. The male is quite girly in himself & the female is, well, annoying as fuck.

birdofthenorth · 28/06/2011 19:27

I know a male Carey but always thought it was a bit girly. But for a girl would get confused for Carrie all the time. How about Corey?

RachelHRD · 28/06/2011 14:57

I like it and used to know a Carey when I was at college and always thought what a nice slightly unusual name.

GooseyLoosey · 28/06/2011 14:54

Not for me I'm afraid.

Hehe.

I am so slow, I couldnt work out what the problem was, then it came to me -Hairy Cunt!!!

Our surname is similar to Westly, so it would be Carey Westy

aliceliddell · 28/06/2011 14:28

Is her second name Hunt? This is my immediate worry.

SloganLogan · 28/06/2011 14:25

Reminds me of Carex handwash, sorry!

pointydog · 27/06/2011 17:14

Mariah Carey, Jim Carey (however it's spelled).

oohlaalaa · 27/06/2011 15:20

Thank you MissHonkover.

superjobeespecs · 27/06/2011 15:19

immediately thought kay-ray like mariah and jim, bloody nice name but too like my DDs good job i didnt see this before finding out we're having a boy or DHTB would be getting nagged to agree that its not to similar to DDs name even tho it really is its beyond a joke they are basically the same name Grin

MissHonkover · 27/06/2011 15:15

It's definitely care-ee (like Mariah), not Kerry or Carrie, because they are, er, Kerry and Carrie.

I love Carey! Also like Cory.

oohlaalaa · 27/06/2011 14:52

Thanks. I love the name. I think it should be pronounced Keh-ree. I prefer the pronounciation Ca-rey. Can I have my own pronounciation. I prefer spelling Carey to Carrie.

Thanks again.

tammytoby · 23/06/2011 13:50

I like Carey. Could be a nickname for Caroline.

razzlebathbone · 22/06/2011 15:57

I think it's lovely for either a boy or girl.

oohlaalaa · 22/06/2011 10:38

I know this is an old thread, but I like the name too. Found it when googling Carey.

Is it pronounced Ca-rey, or Keh-riy?

motherlovebone · 23/01/2009 12:36

like the Joni Mitchell song...love it!

AtheneNoctua · 23/01/2009 12:31

I know a Carey. She is lovely. But, she has spent her life being associated with Jim when she explains how to spell it.

no5 · 23/01/2009 12:27

Carrie is common spelling, i think or Kerry
I think if you spell Carey, people will spell Carrie iyswim
I have friend with Rebekah, people always spell Rebecca.

LadyArden · 23/01/2009 12:24

Agree with Primula, not the style of name I would normally go for but it has a nice ring about it.

The only male Carey I can think of was Enid Blyton's brother.
