Still TTC No. 2 at the moment. Girls names are impossible, but for a boy I am liking:

Cyrus
Tyrone
Oshian (Oshi for short)
Oren
Keir
Lukas
Amies
Bryn

DP is stuggling with all except Bryn (which is probably my least favourite) - we need a Welsh element so it may become the middle name.

I think that Tyrone and Cyrus are lovely - great for a little boy, but definitely suitable for teenagers /grownups too.

MamaLazarou · 10/08/2009 09:35

Cyrus - Billy Ray. How about Osiris?
Tyrone - great name
Oshian (Oshi for short) - pretentious and horrible
Oren - made up
Keir - Nice. Prefer the spelling Kier.
Lukas - Nice name, very popular at the moment.
Amies - Can see what you're going for, but it just sounds like a plural of Amy.
Bryn - lovely name.

pontynan · 09/08/2009 12:21

In Welsh you spell it Osian - but pronounce it Osh-un. I love it - the only one on the list I like actually!

mrsradders · 30/06/2009 17:00

only like bryn to be honest a friends little boy is called this and he is lovely. x

TEJQ · 28/06/2009 22:05

I know an Osian who is Welsh, but with no 'H', I also know a Ieuan.

Lucas or Luca is nice, also know a Sidney!

roselover · 28/06/2009 20:17

I too am pregnant with twins - a girl and a boy - before you get pregnant - its all you dream about names for a girl ...names for a boy ...but I have made the mistake of asking around the family what they think of some of my choices - and no one agrees.... just to say dont like English names much - and I want Llewellyn as a second name for the boy ....what do you think of:

OLivier (My fav - everyone hates it)
Orlando
Raphael
Casper
REdmond (Red)
Christophe (Kit)

Louisa
Rosanna (Rosa)
Raphaella (Rae)
Haley - (too dated?)

goomum · 28/06/2009 19:52

Keir is a great name. It means dark haired one. I have one and it suits him down the ground. No one thinks it is particularly weird and we generally get a great reaction to it. They usually say like short version of Keiran? So it feels familiar to them even though it is very unusual.

We do get a lot of people mispelling it as Kier (like the building firm) but we just say it is spelt EI like Keith. In South London some people do pronounce it with 2 syllables as KIA, but it doesnt bother us or him as he is definitely very boyish.

I also like Bryn which I think is in the same ilk. Unusal but simple to pronounce and steeped with Gaelic heritage.

Don't listen to the person who says this is the worst list ever. I think it is a great shortlist. Go for Keir or Bryn! Lucas is getting very common round these here parts.

shinesohard · 28/06/2009 16:10

Just to let the person that thinks that Lukas is just Lucas spelt wrongly or trying to be different, that it is actually the Scandinavian spelling, and it was the top name in both Sweden and Norway for 2009.

MadaMoo · 10/03/2009 00:07

Bryn...

llareggub · 08/03/2009 09:27

What about Aneurin? Good Welsh heritage and can be shortened to the easily pronounceable Nye.

lunamoon2 · 07/03/2009 23:59

I like Kier and Lukas but spelt Lucas (otherwise he will spell his entire life spelling out his name)

pointydog · 07/03/2009 20:35

I am struggling with all apart from Keir

willowthewispa · 07/03/2009 20:31

I agree with Leannabanana that Silas is much nicer than Cyrus.

willowthewispa · 07/03/2009 20:30

I actually quite like most of them! Unusual but not silly.

I really like Keir and Lukas, Bryn is nice. I know someone with a little boy called Orin, and I think that's lovely.

Not keen on Cyrus, never heard of Amies before, and Tyrone sounds like a pit bull to me. Undecided about Oshian - I'm not a big fan of the name Oisin either.

MumGoneCrazy · 07/03/2009 20:26

If its a welsh or welsh spelt name your looking for, what about these -

Dewey
Dewi
Daryn
Owain
Owein
Dilan
Dylan
Dyllan
Dyllon
Ioan
Reece
Kai
Bevan
Beven
Bevin
Brynn
Brys
Cai
Cain

We wanted a welsh name (both me and Dp are welsh) for our 4th which is due in sept but have decided on an irish name instead Ryley
Still cant agree on a girls name

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 07/03/2009 20:18

Without a shadow of a doubt that is the worst list of boys names I have ever seen.

So truly, terribly bad.

The best is Bryn but who could call their child that after Rob Brydon in 'Gavin and Stacey'?. Yes as a middle name but you need to come up with summat else for the first name unless you live in a croft in the middle of nowhere.

Nighbynight · 07/03/2009 20:13

Oran is a city in northern Algeria.
I always thought the name was spelled Orrin.

Leannabanana · 07/03/2009 19:09

cyrus...NO...silas is better....

i really am not keen on the rest either. How about Roscoe?

lowrib · 22/01/2009 13:43

mileniwmffalcon love it!

SlipOfTheTongue · 22/01/2009 13:25

Osian as a Welsh name is lovely, but you have to spell it correctly!

Lionstar · 22/01/2009 13:13

So glad somebody got a name out of this!

this thread has inspired a namechange

Petrovia · 22/01/2009 11:15

Lukas is just the foreign spelling, though. I don't see anything wrong with that.

mrsfossil · 22/01/2009 10:55

My fave is Lucas but only with a c not k. Sorry a pet hate of mine is unusual spellings, makes me think parents are a bit dim if they can't spell name correctly.

Tyrone reminds me of that character in coronation street - shame when soaps use a nice name and give to either a simple or not nice character.

I do feel for you as i am trying to think of name for my soon to be dd. When you're not pregnant you can think of lots of great names but when it comes down to actually naming a real person its a bit more tricky.

Lionstar · 22/01/2009 10:21

Millenniumfalcon, I'd pronounce Huw your way too (I grew up in N Wales). Sadly it's not a name I'm that keen on, in fact I don't like most Welsh boys names. And all the Welsh girls names I like don't pronounce well in English (the ones that do are already overwhelmingly popular). You just can't win!
