Love Clementine, but not sure what it will get shortened to ad if I can live with it! Clemmy...?

Emmy will probably be popular as Jennifer Lopez's daughter is called that

Podrick · 18/01/2009 12:56

Clementine is lovely but I don't like Clem or Clemmy either. Emmi or Cleo are nice but she is bound to be called Clemmy at school!

saphron · 18/01/2009 12:48

Clee is a nice nickname.

kerala · 18/01/2009 12:33

My DH must go against the grain. I suggested it he loved it (he had been reading jeeves and wooster books and its that sort of name). So we went for it. Shes currently 10 weeks old.

Must say reactions to the name vary from effusive delight "I love it love it" to "hmm unusual" and silence. Find ourselves naturally saying Clem which I think is pretty (despite the northern dialetc starvation thing lucky we are southerners!) Dont think Clem is too outrageous its abit like a combination of Claire and Emma both very mainstream names.

changer22 · 17/01/2009 17:50

I know 2 Clementines - one is Clemmie, one is Clem. Both lovely.

ruty · 17/01/2009 17:48

i love Clem, and Clemmie for a girl is sweet.

alapala · 17/01/2009 17:46

I know a lovely Clem (in 50s). Clemmy sweet for when younger.

BlackEyedDogstar · 16/01/2009 22:39

Love Clementine, would use myself.

Would shorten to Clem.

pointydog · 16/01/2009 22:35

RiaParkinson · 16/01/2009 21:55

Clemmy is only logical shortening

knowing me i would do Clems

missymoo2411 · 16/01/2009 21:51

emmi,me me

LaDiDaDi · 16/01/2009 10:40

I think that Clementine is ok as a name but I really dislike Clemmie and that's certainly the most obvious nn.

Cleo is better as a nn if you could make it stick iyswim but then I'd be inclined to use that rather than Clementine in the first place.

Lulubee · 15/01/2009 23:18

Clem is like that noise you make when you've got a bit of a tickly cough but it's not bad enough to make you want to full on hack your lungs out. Clem. A-clem-clem. Clem-clem-clem-clem-clem.

(Sorry, have had a glass of wine.)

WinkyWinkola · 15/01/2009 23:16

Mimi? Tiny?

Nicknames don't necessarily have to come directly from the first name though. Our DCs have loads of names that are nothing to do with their first names.

Clementine is a fabulous name.

Astrophe · 15/01/2009 23:06

Happily, my DH has not heard either slang (balls or fanjo).

LynetteScavo · 15/01/2009 21:57

Blueshoes - is you DH an expert on alternative words for fanjos or something?

mrsruffallo · 15/01/2009 09:57

Clemmie is awful but Clem is a lovely name

blueshoes · 15/01/2009 09:57

PheasantPlucker · 15/01/2009 09:56
