My friend has a son called Riley James, he's lovely. It's not a chavvy name where I live, don't know of any others, although I'm sure there are some, but it's not very common.

It always reminds me of the lead singer off of The Lightening Seeds, his son was named Riley and their song Life of Riley was about his birth/babyhood iirc. I thought it was quite cool in the 90's and had no idea it was common/popular these days or considered chavvy.

Fine if you're using it because it's a family name (mothers maiden name or other such family connotation). Otherwise sounds a bit American and makey-uppy to me. A bit too 'cool for school' maybe. And you do risk it being a bit 2009 as well. But if none of these things matter to you then it's fine! It's not offensive in any way, just a bit, well, ahem, not as nice as Charlie shall I say?

Although (and I may have this wrong) but did you say your other option is Rodney?
In which case Riley is better I think.......I think?

Any other options on the table?

I live in Surrey and know of one Riley at present - she is a girl.

When I was born (over 40 years ago) it was name of our (v naughty) siamese cat which in turn was named after my Dad's favourite vintage car. Just a bit of useless info to mull over!

Doesn't sound chavvy to me just very feline!
