What is your child called, and what do they GET called?

Everyone spells DS's name wrong, but it is spelt a few different ways so I can forgive it.

Boodlerpoop · 08/09/2009 20:55

Ds (Ethan) has been called I-than by loads of people in the seven weeks hes been here....oh and Nathan. Ugh. Not impressed!

AntdamnTheDM · 04/09/2009 10:04

DS is John. How hard is it to get John right??? We had cards when he was born that said Jhon, Jon, Jonn ??? I thought it was fairly straightforward. I get asked if it is short for Johnathan - No because John is a name in itself.

My name is Natalie, I get all different spellings of my name - Natalia(completely different name) Natile? Natilly, Nataly, and the best one I ever got was Naturly?? Lol

Natalie must also be a name you instantly forget aswell, I had a few cards when DS was born that had Ashleigh?? Sammy and 'John's Mum' on them. Or maybe they instantly forget me....

PinkyRed · 02/09/2009 22:32

realy = really, obviously

PinkyRed · 02/09/2009 22:28

My dd has a Welsh name, and she gets all kind of variations. It seemed realy straightforward when we picked it- I couldn't see how anyone could get it wrong, but they can!

bratley · 02/09/2009 22:23

DS is Isaac, but he's known as Zack, has been since birth. As in Jack but with a 'Z'. Not Zac, Zak or Zach.
You don't see people misspelling Jack so why is Zack any harder!?
We've had Issac, too. Grrr...
DH's grandma insists on calling him Eye-zik because 'thats his proper name!'... umm.. no its not. If we're going to talk about his 'proper name', its Eye-zack.
But then she calls our neice Kate-lind... instead of Caitlyn!

largeginandtonic · 02/09/2009 21:22

All the fecking time.

Can hardly blame people though, some of them have some tricky names.

pureeandpearls · 02/09/2009 21:20

I have a Cecily- she gets Stephanie a fair bit, when she's not "Seal-y", "Ce-ceel" and "'er- sorry, how do you pronounce that?"

Doobydoo · 02/09/2009 11:56

My ds1 is Finn ..I think it a fairly simple name..People sometimes spell in with 1 N or ask if it is short for Finlay or Fintan.
I get called everything but my name...luckily I answer to most things

Mamazon · 02/09/2009 11:53

DD is Eleanor.

we get everything from Elinor to Elnar.

and you;d be amazed at some of the pronunciations.

really? i thought it was quite a traditional name but apparantly if your not named after a brand it causes difficulty

nicnacinoonoo · 02/09/2009 11:48

my son is called Ajay, and we always get 'oh is that for andrew john' or something to that effect. No it Ajay thats why we said Ajay when you asked what his name was duh! I've had many mis spellings of it too. i can understand people just using AJ but other than that i would have thought it was pretty simple, but iv had Aejaye and all sorts!!

eandh · 02/09/2009 06:45

DD2 is Hattie (Hat -tee) I think fairly easy to spell (although have had Hatty written on things) however the only person to have ever mispronounced it was the blimmin vicar at her baptism and he said Hate-tee and forgot to say her middle name (Alice) so DH Nan who was obviously sitting in the congregation was telling everyone her middle name was Alice (after her) and she corrected the vicar after the service

KTP · 02/09/2009 06:15

My son's name is Finlay. In Scotland, they pronounce it 'Fin lee', with the second syllable thrown away. This is how we pronounce it. We live in Australia now, and everyone, without exception, unless I correct them a thousand times and even then.......pronounces it 'Fin LAY' with a huge accent on the LAY. I hate it, my son hates it and now only ever introduces himself as 'Fin'. Phew.

rolledhedgehog · 01/09/2009 17:36

I have a Gabriel who is constantly called Gabrielle. I can't work out if they think he is a girl (he does look girly and is called 'she' often) and I dress him/her very butch OR he is a boy with a girl's name.

I have stopped correcting people about either his sex or his name. He is going to grow up very confused!

frakkinpannikinAGRIPPA · 31/08/2009 16:42

I've just changed the spelling of my name. It makes the French happier.

I was going to have to spell either my first name (in French) or my surname (in English) so I decided to make it wholly French and spell the whole thing in English.

slim22 · 31/08/2009 16:02

My son has a foreign name (as in arabic foreign). Very easy to pronounce yet, feels like most people make a point of making it sound more exotic.
More often than not we get the jewish biblical version, when most people know we are muslim born. You'd think teachers and class mums could make an effort after a couple of years, no?
Not that we are of religious disposition anyway, so couldn't care less really

muminthecity · 31/08/2009 15:54

DD is called Daisy, we have had Daisie and exMIL always spells it Daisey, every bloody time, even though I've corrected her 100,000 times. She even bought DD a personalised bed canopy with Daisey written on it!

I pay money into DD's trust fund by direct debit each month and it always shows up as 'Dazy Trust Fund' on my bank statement!

sheepgomeep · 31/08/2009 15:38

dd2 is an Elinor, people still insist on spelling it Eleanor.

So she is now an Ellie

sheepgomeep · 31/08/2009 15:37

yes all the time. ds is called ciaran (kieran)

He gets called Klaron
cheeron , Caron,

It really annoys me

thirdname · 29/08/2009 20:39

dh mispronounces dc2's name
granddad/sister mispronounces dc1's name

mummytowillow · 29/08/2009 20:30

My daughter is called Cerys, in the doctors when she went for her first injections the nurse called out very loudly 'Cerise' as in the colour, I was mortified as everyone looked at me as if I was mad!

I made sure they all heard me correct her!!

Kathrina · 28/08/2009 18:55

All of my childrens names get spelt wrong my eldest Georgia is often Georgina?? my son is Aidan spelt Aiden even by his auntie and he is now 6!!! My youngest is Keira spelt Kiera, Keera, Kira the list is endless it just annoys me that people dont ask how it is spelt they just put it down anyway.

bexincornwall · 27/08/2009 12:12

My ds name is Louis, which gets spelt Luis, Louie, Lewis and pronounced most commonly Lewis or even Louise!? (Louise by the doctors intercom - every time). Drives me insane, we thought we'd chosen one that you couldn't get wrong!!

tummytickler · 23/08/2009 12:45

My ds is called Eli, simple you would think!
My cousin always writed Eligh on his cards, despite nearly 7 years of us sending her cards with the right spelling on. She seems determined to make it more complicated than it is

Fluffypoms · 23/08/2009 10:58

My Dd1 Raegan thought if we had spelt it this way she wouldnt then get called reegan but still does she not impressed
