If you had to pick a name that you would immediately consider 'beautiful' on hearing it, what would it be?

Evaine.

In one of the earliest tales of Lancelot of the Lake, she was his mother, a queen. And her husband died and her son was abducted she went into convent and devoted her life to prayer despite being young and beautiful.

When asked why, years later, she responded that when she married her husband their souls became one, so she prayed for his soul as much as her own.

A bit over-romantic, but still a pretty sentiment.

merrykittymas · 27/12/2008 22:11

How do you pronounce Ngaire?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/12/2008 22:11

Like "Melody", isn't it?

Ah, this thread is making me very jealous. I only have boys and there is just not the scope for beautiful names there!

mrsdisorganised · 27/12/2008 22:10

I love the name Eilidh would have used it for DD3 but It's too much like DD1's name.

I love Talia DD2's name truly beautiful.

dizzydixies · 27/12/2008 22:05

I love the name Amelie too expat but couldn't use it for DD3 as we have one already in our close circle

Sparkler · 27/12/2008 22:04

My two dds are Chloe and Lucy - I think they are really pretty names.
Names I also think are beautiful and that I wanted to use before DDs were born but DH didn't like seem to be colours:-
Amber, Jade, Opal, Magenta.
I also think Jasmine is lovely.

Amelie is lovely . My mother's mother was an Amelie and she was physically a very beautiful woman.

expatinscotland · 27/12/2008 22:03

i wonder where these Scots got this 'ceilidh' business, then. they have evenings here called 'ceilidhs', and some will call the evening party after their wedding (the marriage is not valid if performed after 6PM) a ceilidh rather than a reception.

dizzydixies · 27/12/2008 22:02

Anna
Clementine
Amelie

singyswife · 27/12/2008 22:01

I have heard of girls called ceilidh in America, but not with that spelling, however, and it always sounds strange now because people use it as not just a party here but as a verb, as in 'to go ceilidhing' .

Eilidh is Helen in Scots Gaelic, however.

girlandboy · 27/12/2008 21:59

Ariadne

theboob · 27/12/2008 21:59

Olivia my DD name......i also love the name Grace

LiffeyanFiaRua · 27/12/2008 21:59

Juliet, Annabel, Flora, Clara, Marianne, Susannah, Leonora, Emily

There are other names I like but I consider them strong first then beautiful; eg Beatrix, Penelope or Claudia.
