If you had to pick a name that you would immediately consider 'beautiful' on hearing it, what would it be?

lljkk - can an exhuberant teenager, a hard working career woman and a wise old lady not fit into the category of 'beautiful' ?

Isobel/Isabella and Grace are beautiful but over used, which taints them?

lljkk · 28/12/2008 18:17

That's funny, because some of the names Lonnie 'loves' I think are downright ugly sounding.

The thing is, we will all be old and ugly one day, I think it's best to choose a name that will fit all of: cute little baby, bubbly little girl, exhuberant teenager, confident young woman, hard-working career woman, wise old lady. Thinking just about 'beautiful' is quite limiting, possibly anti-feminist, too.

I love Isobel (my DD'S name) it's beautiful and simple

Lonnie · 28/12/2008 15:30

Its really interesting isnt it how different we each find names..

Many of the ones above Ive read and thought YUCK and some of them I have read and thought yes its a lovely name but it doesnt say "beautiful" to me..

like flower names Daisy Violet, Rose, Poppy to me they are flowers pretty lovely names but flowers.. the first thing I think when I see the name is FLOWER..

Virtues like Grace, Hope, Faith I dont think beautiful I think Virtue..

for me a name like Bella I think Beautiful because that is what the name means I dont particularly care for the name (Im afraid I just think Tweenies)

Anna/Anne Lucy Olivia, Alice, Emma I see very ordinary names not something I think beautiful for.. again pretty names but they dont jump out to me and say beautiful..

I love my own daugthers names but only dd2 Eloisa do I genuinly feel is a name that is beautiful.. the other two are gorgeous names but I think awww beautiful name when I hear them but I LOVE the names..

I loathe unisex names and I find it interesting not many are named here (I dont think any was but cant be asked to go looking again) my own is a unisex name but more used as a boys name and it irritates me SO much when I get a letter to MR Lonnie I GAVE BIRTH TO 4 CHILDREN I AM CERTAIN I AM NOT A MR!!!!!

now having likely written what is a rant then Yes I do understand that what people have done is list names they really like / love think are pretty.. but for me it wasnt what was asked..

I can add to the list of names I think are pretty with

Niamh, Phoebe, Aoife, Ayla, Rosanna, Fenella, Amabel and Ilona... but of those only Amabel is a name that makes me thing beautiful.. but I LOVE them all..
