I'll go first: DD was very nearly Sapphire.

I also really wanted Twm for a boy (Welsh for Tom), but I am not Welsh! I just thought it was fab to have a name with no vowels!

i wanted aluna for dd and ruben, rory for ds, dh never agreed.

MarchNowFebMum · 11/01/2009 23:43

Catch a star, I love Seren, wated Sarin for our dd but dh was no way!! (BTW, when I was younger I always thought woman had veto on names. I kow that's ridiculous but was quite shocked when he had strong opinions!)

charx · 11/01/2009 23:21

zeb (zebedee)

Cloudhopper · 08/01/2009 23:02

We were really keen on Elysia, as in Elysian fields, and also Ruby.

Only decided against Ruby when my best friend's other best friend also named it as her favourite while we were both pregnant before they were both born. Although I still love the name, it spooked me at the time.

I loved Hugo for a boy but we never had one.

Not sure whether I think our final choice was particularly wise, but I still love it.

justneedsomesleep · 08/01/2009 23:02

Tarquin!and Chase
Both of which dh said a definte no to!

Fo our dd, it was Cadence and Arianna.
Agian, no to both.

CatchaStar · 08/01/2009 22:56

I don't think it's unusual but I wanted dd to be Seren.

moodlumhohohoodlum · 08/01/2009 22:53

for ds I wanted

Spike
Buddy

DH wanted for DS Frodo or Austin

For DD I wanted Tallulah or Kitty (appreciate that neither are particularly revolutionary) but both were veto'd.

As it was the name we chose for ds was described by dh's aunt as a name for a dog, certainly not a boy..

JoyS · 08/01/2009 22:46

Willow
Aspen
Linnea
Fionn
Mabel
Elspeth

All the lovely Irish names sound great with our surname but we are not at all Irish so Declan, Dylan, Niamh, Siobhan etc all vetoed.

Also have giant list of old lady names incl Edith (my favorite) that I will never get to use.

skidaddle · 08/01/2009 20:24

I wanted to call DS Inigo, Malachi or Inyaki but DH wouldn't let me. Fair enough, they are wierd names you might say...

but wait until you hear what his suggestions were: Mowgli (as in the jungle book), Reef (as in not even a name) and Killian (well at least it's a proper name)

Poor DS didn't have a name until he was 5.6 weeks old!
(He's called a relatively normal Milo)

lecohen · 08/01/2009 15:41

I wanted Luella for dd1 but hub said absolutely no way lol

I much prefer the name we agreed on - Laylee

PrammieMammy · 08/01/2009 11:27

I wanted Rio at first, but when he came, we had a Noah.

jessia · 08/01/2009 11:17

My DH wanted Ljubljana for our DD1. Ljubljana (pronounced Lyublyana) is the capital of Slovenia, where we were on holiday just before we got married, and the word means "beloved". Concept highly worthy but nevertheless I put my foot down so she is Milena, which is the Czech name for the same concept.

francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2009 11:10

I wanted Mario or Milo for ds.

Dd has the name I wanted.

Fimbo · 08/01/2009 11:08

Not usual but very 80's names.

Either Lynne or Gillian but dh was having none of it.

Wanted Campbell for a boy again dh wasn't keen

babymt · 08/01/2009 11:00

I wanted...well and still want...Amethyst. Dh has always said no and deliberately says it "Am-a-fist" just to annoy me.

I fell in love with Auralie a few days ago until I said it out loud and it sounds like Orally.

Aston is on my boys short list but several people have said it just reminds them of Aston Martin.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 07/01/2009 10:28

You're probably right. DH vetoed it from the start and I am still in a grump about it some time later...

cazboldy · 07/01/2009 10:27

Seamus - but he became James out of compromise

Also really liked Aoife

I'm not irish, but really like a lot of Irish names

lambskinmmm · 07/01/2009 10:27

i love percy... it was on my list .. what a long list.

I think anything that isn't totally obscure is in danger of being "kate mossed" or hip hopped or something. risk we all take.

my name's margaret... i don't think that's in danger of coming back... i wonder why!

duchesse · 07/01/2009 10:25

bogey- might be something to do with pointing percy at the porcelain, no? The howls of laughter I mean. Percival is lovely, and I can't believe it's not still used. It may just be the shortened version that makes the ignorant people laugh.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 07/01/2009 10:23

Percy. Why is it that all the other cool, old fashioned names have come back but people still howl with laughter when I say that? I love it.

Pinkjenny · 07/01/2009 10:21

Liberty

gladders · 07/01/2009 10:21

I fell in love with the name Lila aged about 10 when I very first heard it - sadly Kate Moss beat me to it and I quickly fell out of love with it...

Then wanted to call ds Charlie but dh (works in advertising sweetie...) said everyone would think we had a child named after cocaine....

lambskinmmm · 07/01/2009 10:20

dd wants peter, petunia or george
dh wants amea, hugo, krisanti, emile or lucien
I want tulasi, bruce, ophelia or Nanda

HELP!!!

duchesse · 07/01/2009 10:19

actually still liking the look of it...

duchesse · 07/01/2009 10:18

Calypso (not after that bint in the Camomile Lawn, more after the Suzanne Vega song).
