I am due to be induced TONIGHT and still don't have a girls name! We had pretty much decided on the name Lauren until a couple of days ago when I found out it was the name of that horrible Catherine Tate character. Am I the only person who didn't know this character's name? Now I'm worried that it's a really chavvy name and I'm the only person who didn't know. I know I will probably annoy/offend a lot of people by using the word chavvy but as I'm talking about the 'am I bovvered?' girl I think you know what I'm saying. Just wondered if you could give me your views on the name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Pinkmarshmallow · 20/12/2008 12:23

I love the name! Good luck for tonight & let us know the ultimate decision!!

Wigglesworth · 20/12/2008 11:51

The very best of luck BTW, what a lovely early xmas present you LO will be. Merry Christmas. XXX

Wigglesworth · 20/12/2008 11:50

My husband loved the name Lauren, I think it's nice but I preferred others. He also liked Sophie which I hated, so wet (sorry if anyone has Sophie but it's just my opinion). We settled on Chloe, but we had a DS anyway so it didn't matter.
It's not chavvy at all, you can associate any name with something if you try hard enough, if you liked it in the first place go with it.

HarktheheraldAnglepoise · 20/12/2008 11:42

I didn't know it was the CT character and detest CT. The only Lauren I have known was at my private school - upper middle and referred to Thatcher as "our Maggie". So demented but not chavvy

If you like it then use it (and good luck!)

Kotek · 20/12/2008 11:40

I agree entirely with what Astrophe says - you are always at risk of a new character etc being well known in the future with whatever name you choose and it might be a much worse association than that you are worried about now. If you like it, go for it!! Good luck tonight.

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 20/12/2008 11:31

p.s. just realised I am posting under my festive name - my real mnet name is onepieceoflollipop

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 20/12/2008 11:29

lollyheart and lollystar I will give you a prize if you guess the name of my gorgeous dd.

Lovely name, not overused imo. Also not so unusual that people say "how do you spell that"?

OP I am biased but I love it too.

"rough estate name" - making a statment like that (imo) is just unkind rather than offering an opinion. There are nicer ways of saying things.

WorzselMincepieYummage · 20/12/2008 11:26

Oh there are without a doubt such things 'rough estate names' but Lauren isnt one of them atall.

Very pretty

DumbledoresGirl · 20/12/2008 11:25

I have to say that dd's best friend is called Lauren and she is not someone I like so that colours my opinion of the name. But your Lauren will be lovely in your eyes so go with it!

SnowballsintheSky · 20/12/2008 11:24

Bit of pointless information here. I went to school with a Lauren in the 80's. It was a boy! Until I left school I didn't realise it was a girls name. I wonder if he changed it...?

CrushWithEyeliner · 20/12/2008 11:24

isn't that Vicky pollard?

Nancy66 · 20/12/2008 11:22

Yes, i am a bit of a snob when it comes to names.
The poster asked if people thought it was a chavvy name and I very much do.

Catherine Tate wanted to portray a certain type of character so why do you think she called her Lauren? Because it fitted...

lollyheart · 20/12/2008 11:12

I have a lauren too. its not chavvy at all, i never knew it was catherine tates name.

Tommy · 20/12/2008 11:01

good luck BTW!

Tommy · 20/12/2008 10:59

I have a friend called Lauren who's so far removed from the CT character it's untrue. DS1 has a lttle friend called Lauren as well. I never think about them and CT in the same thought.

I would go for it - it's a pretty name

IllegallyBrunette · 20/12/2008 10:57

I'll pay you later emma

tiredemma · 20/12/2008 10:56

I wouldnt choose Lauren either, but only because I prefer other names, not because its bloody 'chavvy'. FGS

sonniboo · 20/12/2008 10:55

The op asked for opinions as to whether people feel the name Lauren feels 'chavvy' to them, and thats what people are doing: offering THEIR opinions.

Personally I wouldn't chose Lauren either, but at the end of the day its a personal choice and I'm just offering MY opinion. And you did ask .

Good luck with the birth!

tiredemma · 20/12/2008 10:51

'rough estate name'

you fool.

TotalChaos · 20/12/2008 10:45

I think it's fine. What about Laurie or Laura?

IllegallyBrunette · 20/12/2008 10:43

Nancy, are you by any chance a snob, because you sound like one.

IT IS THE PERSON WHICH MAKES SOMEONE CHAVVY, NOT THEIR NAME.

Nancy66 · 20/12/2008 10:41

I'm afraid i do think Lauren is chavvy - and it was before the Catherine Tate character. it's a bit of a rough estate name - probably why Catherine Tate chose it.

What about Lara instead?

IllegallyBrunette · 20/12/2008 09:18

I have a Lauren too, not at all chavvy and doesn't make me think of CT either.

Mine gets called Lolly or Lol most of the time.

lollystar · 20/12/2008 09:14

I love Lauren as it's my little girl's name ;) Definitely not chavvy and never think of Katherine Tate (cos she's rubbish)

CoteDAzur · 20/12/2008 09:00

I like Lauren.
