Our other choices include Alexander (hot favorite so far I think), also Mungo, Munro, Nairn, Hector and Rory.

DH has just suggested Dougray and my initial reaction was positive. Wondering what you ladies think to it (we are in Scotland, as you may have guessed!)

Honest opinions please, don't hold back.

WhileShosheWatchedHerFlocks · 19/12/2008 13:59

Its no made up, I have great great great/great great/ Great Uncles Dougray according to our Family Tree.

And I love the name by the way.

belgo · 19/12/2008 13:59

Agree with Dragon, Gray is better. Don't like Dougray.

claireybaubles · 19/12/2008 13:57

I quite like it. DS is Douggie (and Alexander too!).

Nancy66 · 19/12/2008 13:33

Well you did say don't hold back so...i hate it and not too keen on your other choices either.

They're all a bit too...well...Scottish

moondog · 19/12/2008 13:27

Fucking hell
That is the worst name I have ever heard.
God,I have just inhaled half of my lunch as I am so appalled.

CoolYourJets · 19/12/2008 13:27

Dougray sounds made up. Dh and I always snort at Dougray Scott. Reckon he spelt Dougie wrong .

BlueChampagne · 19/12/2008 13:26

I like Alexander and Hector. Dougray makes me think of Dounreay, sorry.

delightedoldbag34 · 19/12/2008 12:49

Having Googled Dougray I think it may be made up. Although I did find a website that listed it being of French origin (which sounds unlikely).
I still like it and have checked through my collection of baby name books (I have quite a few) and it isn't in ANY of them.

Has anyone ever met anyone actually called this?
(I do know Dougray Scott isn't actually called Dougray.)

I would go for Douglas instead of Dougray.

Alexander is a little unimaginative and most certainly will be shortened.

But I REALLY like Mungo and Rory from your list! Great, masculine names that won't have to be shortened.

FanjoForTheYuletideMammaries · 19/12/2008 10:24

You could just call him Gray?

itcameuponamidnightexpress · 19/12/2008 10:22

It sounds made up (and I'm in Scotland too). Of your other choices I like Hector and Alexander, but not keen on the others.

Mungo sounds a bit deliberately different. And therefore poncey.
Munro is Ok, but would make me wonder if you did it on top of a hill
Nairn is just Nairn. A town.

MrsSeanBean · 19/12/2008 10:20

Mungo

Mungo

Mungo

(or Rory)

Tortington · 19/12/2008 10:18

nope

ninedragons · 19/12/2008 10:17

No. It may be a real name in Scotland but it certainly doesn't travel.

Douglas fine, Dougal lovely (and on my secret shortlist for next DC, as Mungo would have been if I hadn't wasted it on a cat in my feckless pre-child years) but Dougray just doesn't have the same appeal.

lilibet · 19/12/2008 10:08

I like it!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 19/12/2008 10:00

alexander could be shortened to Xander or SAndy. it doesn't have to be alex.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 19/12/2008 10:00

oh that reminds me! I saw Rory McCann in Edinburgh yesterday.

happymerrychristmas · 19/12/2008 09:57

Dougray shortened to Doug is ok.

LOVE Hector and Mungo!

Alexander is ok but a little boring/common and likely to be abbreviated to Alex (where he'll be one of many girls and boys...).
