Love it!

Annabel, Matilda, Arabella, Sophia, Antonia are a few names that I really like. But of course it is a very personal choice, and if you like Esme, go for it. I only wanted to point out that I feel the name doesn't travel well (and in my opinion doesn't sound very feminine).

Not super keen. Don't dislike it though. I prefer Dulcie (the new Esme )

happymerrychristmas · 16/12/2008 21:46

I don't think it sounds feminine at all...

Also doesn't 'travel' well - would sound very strange in German, for example...

There are much prettier girls' names out there imo.

pgwithnumber3 · 16/12/2008 21:22

I really like it, it is on our list for DD3. Although I can see it gaining in popularity, it isn't even in the Top 100 at the moment so it can't be that common.

TinselCoveredWILKIE · 16/12/2008 20:36

I love the name Esme when pronounced (not spelt obv) Ez-mee but NOT when pronounced Ez-may (IYSWIM)

EmmaDilemma · 16/12/2008 20:33

Loved it when thinking about naming 1st child; DH didn't and through his repetition of "(H)ere's me thinking you had taste", I changed my mind on it!

MissusHoHoHo · 16/12/2008 15:48

dd2 is Esmé (11wks old). There are none at dd1's school at the mo and when people round here ask her name I am mainly met with "ooh how unusual"

pigleto · 16/12/2008 15:43

there are two esmes in ds's class at school. I like it though.

kerala · 16/12/2008 15:09

Are you me? We had this exact dilemma - I wanted it he didnt. In fact DH was convinced Id made the name up as he had never heard of it . Needless to say we didnt pick it as if one is really against it its not going to work. Gorgeous name though!

Nancy66 · 16/12/2008 15:03

I think it's a lovely name and very pretty - if your half is so/so about it then might be worth trying to persuade him but, in my experience, if they're dead set against it then there is no point.

SmilePlease · 16/12/2008 14:56

Not keen on it. I don't think it's worth fighting for with dh.

Better names will come along.

pamelat · 16/12/2008 14:49

Lovely but it has become very popular.

What about Eleri?

Soprana · 16/12/2008 14:37

Can you compromise on Amy/Aimee?

EsmeWeatherwax · 16/12/2008 14:32

I love it. Obviously!

RachieB · 16/12/2008 14:31

I like it but its bound to come with the NN "Ezzy" which i dont like!

cheezcurl · 16/12/2008 10:59

Becomimg very popular, I know 3 this year! But I agree with ShauntheSheep, anyone who has read Pratchett just thinks granny weatherwax immediately...

ShauntheSheep · 16/12/2008 10:39

Its too granny weatherwax for my liking better than Magrat.

Tortington · 16/12/2008 10:28

thats our nick name for my dd who is called Emma - we rarely call her Emma and frequently call her Esme

branflake81 · 16/12/2008 10:25

Don't like it, sorry.

audley · 16/12/2008 10:18

not for me this one, but may just be down to bad personal association. Does seem to be getting popular though

swottybetty · 16/12/2008 10:10

dh wont budge on hating it either. but agree that it seems v popular at the moment. on MN anyway . esther?

OrmIrian · 16/12/2008 10:10

S'OK....

delightedoldbag34 · 16/12/2008 10:09
