has anyone ever told you their dearest newborns name and you've had to choke back a giggle?

prob offend some people this but can't please everyone.

For me it was when uber competitive Mum at baby massage introduced me to Hubert.

in all seriousness - if somebody asks for an opinion BEFORE they've named their kid and it's a bloody awful name then I will say that I don't like it.

if they've had the child and are not asking for opinions then I don't say anything. their baby, their choice.

Even though I hate, hate, hate made up chavvy names i also think the world would probably be a duller place without them.

My first bump was called Iggy. We did call him Iggy by mistake quite a bit after he was born, but not for long!

Ds2 is called Hugh. We call him Hubert for long.

My bump was called Herbert. Everyone said I wouldn't be able to stop calling the baby that, but I didn't have a problem.

If I had called him Herbert he would have deserved to be on this thread. We've never met one yet though

Re the name Spike, it is lovely and really cool but it originated in the army as a generic nickname for someone tall and thin, ie they look like a spike. Most famous example Spike Milligan. If you read his army memoirs there are quite a lot of other Spikes, all called this for the same reason.

So if you call your DS Spike and he turns out short and fat, you may get a few snurks from older people.

I have heard say of someone who had two DDs, Siobhan pronounced (See-oh-ban) and Shevaunne. Whether it was true or not...?

And I did encounter someone with two boys called William and Liam . I wondered whether, if they'd had a third they'd have called him Billy.

Friend called her DD Callie Lou (yes thats her first name) pissed myself thinking it was a nickname.

Other friend called her DS Also know someone who is scottish who was adopted by an in dian family, they called him Ardon. ROFL that gets some sniggers when we are out

I know she was Welsh,but please!!

Calypso is not only a girl's name (nymph's name) but it sounds like a girl's name.

Well, I've never actually laughed at someone's name but I did think "oh dear" when I met a boy called "Cain" and a boy named "Calypso".
The parents obviously did not realise that they had named their boy after the first murderer, or that Calypso was a girls name, she was the sea nymph who had the hots for Odysseus.

Tut tut, look what happens when an entire generation misses out on their religious and classical education.

As you can see, I am in touch with my inner snob.

Hubert...there's nothing wrong with it, other than the Tom Lehrer song "whatever happened to Hubert?" which does make me giggle.

Jabez is fab. He's a character in the novel The Manchester Man by G L Banks and also name of a pub near Manchester University - a bit of a meatmarket.

our receptionist - yes employed by us- yes we pay her wages - yes we are sweet to her - said ' Nope dont like either of them' when we told her DS5 's names

she added that she had not liked ds3 or 4 names but they had grown on her
