Sasha is Russian It is the shortened form of "Alexander". So yes, a boy's name.

CuppaTeaJanice · 11/12/2008 13:11

Tennessee.

Wouldn't be quite so bad if there wasn't a 'Tennessee Fried Chicken' in town!

GivePeasAChance · 11/12/2008 11:15

Buster. Took my breath away.

Enzo. The Daddy drives a porsche and wears a t shirt saying "Who's the daddy?" [vom emoticon]

A student where I worked was called Tia Maria. Yes, after the drink!

Museli · 11/12/2008 11:06

A friend of a friend called their baby son Rover

JollyPirate · 11/12/2008 08:08

I have met babies called:

Chardonnay - so cool with a south east accent.

DJ (a girl)

Destiny-something (not saying in case her Mum is here).

Shirley (still making the odd appearance)

all during my midwifery years.

However, I can't talk as DS has the name Sheppard as a middle name - old family name.

I know of a family with 2 toddlers called Jean and Bernard. I really had to stifle a chuckle at that one.

jabberwocky · 11/12/2008 02:51

Oh, and just remembered meeting a teenage boy called "conception"

jabberwocky · 11/12/2008 02:32

Not along the lines of the post exactly but this made me giggle...after first dd was born I went up to the maternity ward fullof mus to be and new mums. There was a mum to be opposite waiting for c-section next morning. Anyway I heard her say to her dp..so we definately calling her Honey if it's a girl..right?...Anyway over night my newborn obviously wasn't quiet so I kept having to get up and was naturally talking to her and it came automatically I said things like. "aahhr what's wrong honey " "mummy's here honey etc...anyway next morning when her dp arrived she said I'm not sure about Honey anymore...oops...she probably forgot people use it as a term or endearment anyway or maybe she thought I had named my dd Honey too.

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 11/12/2008 00:07

must say...possibly it was when I heard the name Harley- Lee...now individual I like them, and if used as first and middlename...who would know any better, but it is hyphenated ( that is what it is called right)....that made it a bit odd...but lovely kid and lovely mom...so, well you just get used to it, right

ladyr · 10/12/2008 23:50

My cousin announced that she was calling her daughter "Storm" ...I think it is ridiculous!

prettybutterfly · 10/12/2008 16:59

BikeRun, my immediate thought was Gyllenhaal....

I've forgotten the 80s, as has the great Dame herself I should think.

I'm 35 btw.

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 10/12/2008 16:55

Hmmm, difficult to know how you'd feel though really. I've had people express surprise or not like my boys' names IRL and taken it on the chin.

But the times their names have been laughed at on here, it did feel sneery and it does hurt.

And I am fucking nails, so it must be even worse for people with feelings

BikeRunSki · 10/12/2008 16:55

I met a baby Maggie yesterday and was a bit . As a teenager of the 80s at a very left wing school, my immediate association was "Thatcher" rather than "Simpsons". Her mum was about the same aga as me, so clearly must have a different political bias.

peacelily · 10/12/2008 16:50

Hiya haven't read all of thread sorry if I've offended anyone only meant it as a bit of fun, not mocking/sneering or anything like that.

Different senses of humour and all that. Prob because I wouldn't be remotely offenede if someone didn't like/found dd names strange I just think we had different tastes. Wouldn't cross my mind to be bothered we can't all like the same things.

Just for the record doing a school obs today saw a "tequila" on the whiteboard with some ticks next to her name.

I kid you not.....
