Aston - unusual or just plain weird?

Whats everyones thought on the boys name Aston? Whats the first thought that comes in to your head when you hear/read it?

I really love it and it seems like it just has to be my boys name...thats if it is even a boy!

Dh not keen but doesn't hate it though so thats always a good start

Also quite like Austin.

As a Brummie I think of lots of things when I hear that name. None of them are babies (well... ) Aston Villa (the actual Villa) is quite nice, but that's about it!

Nothing wrong with spelling Birmingham with a "u" BTW, although it's usually Brumagem which is Birmingham in the local language.

No to both Aston and Austin from me, I'm afraid. I am too polite to tell you my first thoughts on hearing them but to hear that they were both inspired by X factor says quite enough imho. Sorry.

If you like Ash, why not go for Ashley, which isn't my favourite name in the world but is better than the other two.

Um, Aston is a not particularly salubrious area of Bham. we wouldn't use it.

I dont like Austin at all, prefer Aston think its a nice name.

LOL I thought everyone was gonna say car but didn't wanna put ideas in your heads by mentioning it first. Oddly Austin makes me think of cars too rather than Austin Powers.

Surely its not really as bad as using Porsche or Mercedes is it?!?!!?

Sounds like a bit of a non-name to me, more like a sound or a word for a thing (possibly a car-like thing!).

Having said that it is not an unpleasant sound but doesn't conjure a picture of a boy called Aston.
