DP and I can't agree on boys names

Some of the names I like are Oliver, Noah, Isaac, Oscar, Archie, Edward.

DP doesn't like any of them and says they're all too popular so he'd like a name that not many children are called. So his list consists of names like Alan, Paul, Graham, Gregory, Mark.

They're all fine and I know of people our age with those names, but I just can't imagine calling our child by one of them!

Can anyone think of any names which might suit both our tastes??

(I'm hoping its a girl to avoid all the arguments discussions, because we can actually agree on a girls name!)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Maybe, you could just allocate your child a holding code, until they develop sufficient sense to name themselves?

Angelsus · 14/11/2008 21:34

Ds2 is Noah Alan, that would keep you both happy (especially you!)

tabbytoo ingenius !

The way to get past a partners choices is tricky, but this is how I did it with both dd and ds:

Push for your 2nd favorite name, REALLY push it. Say nothing else will do etc etc. Then when your baby is born, suggest your #1 fav name. dp/dh will be so pleased it's not the one you pushed for throughout your pregnancy, and so guilty cos of what you've been through in labour, he will agree to anything.
job done!

And if we had a girl (which will never happen now ) she would have been Amy. What girls name do you have that you have both agreed on?

Gingeme · 14/11/2008 19:53

We have an Edward
My boys are :
Keith
Connor
David
Edward
George
and Dh's boys are:
Daryl and Adrian.
If theyre any use to you !

2point4kids · 14/11/2008 19:51

Leo was my other choice - that might suit you both?

2point4kids · 14/11/2008 19:51

I had the same problem with DH with my 2 boys!
Funnily enough he didnt like all the 'new fangled unusual' names I suggested and wanted more 'normal' ones like Mark, James, Peter, Damien.

I think its because he knows those names as peple our age are called them. He didnt know any toddlers or school age children and so didnt realise that Oliver, Oscar, Noah etc are not screamingly unusual at all!

Luckily we found one we agreed on for DS1 - Oliver!

DS2 we had the same problem again and I ended up calling him Edward minutes after he was born and DH went along with it due to me just having given birth

iwouldgoouttonight · 14/11/2008 19:49

Frederick is quite nice. Well I'm not so keen on Frederick but like Freddie or Fred, so that might be an option. Will suggest!

Lewis?

Ds is Lewis James and i haven't come accross many Lewis' since he was born nearly 3 yr ago.

Bluebutterfly · 14/11/2008 19:47

I think that it sounds like you want names that are popular now (the names that our children will decide are far to ordinary for their own children) and you dh wants names that our generation has rejected because we know so many of them, but will actually be unusual for our children's generation.

How about John? I don't know any John's born in the 00's...

Ok, if that is too boring, what about George, Robert, Andrew, Frederick, Daniel, Luke, Eric or Michael?

Gingeme · 14/11/2008 19:45

Is the baby going to have a middle name? If so use one of his as one and one of yours as a first name

iwouldgoouttonight · 14/11/2008 19:38

WorzselMummage - I am tempted to leave it until the baby is just born and then say I'm allowed to choose as I have just done all the work. Sadly I'm still not sure he'd agree to Oliver (which is my current favourite)!

Gabriel is nice although any names I have suggested which sound a bit biblical (Jacob, Noah, Joseph, etc) he doesn't like!

I really didn't realise we had such different tastes in names! This is going to be a struggle!

How about Gabriel?
Kind of old fashioned but not all that common atm.

WorzselMummage · 14/11/2008 19:31

I think you ought to completly discount anything he suggests and go with one of yours which are all lovely
