I agree with the general opinion! love Freya, really nt keen on Terry!

RachieB · 13/11/2008 20:34

love the name Esme but terry / terence noooooooo!

(egg ,as i am a nosey kinda gal lol, i have peeped at your profile too ,OMG you have the most lush children !! )

Egg · 13/11/2008 15:21

HAHAHA! It was camera trickery I assure you! But thankyou .

cyteen · 13/11/2008 15:04

'fine if you are a chocolate orange'

(btw Egg, i was randomly checking out your profile earlier for no good reason and must say that you are gorgeous!)

Egg · 13/11/2008 15:02

BTW, I know an Esme, she is gorgeous (in fact she looks like I think/hope my DD will look in a year) and so it makes me like the name even more.

Egg · 13/11/2008 15:01

Oh Betty. I came onto this thread not realising it was you. Please tell your DH that you cannot call a baby Terry. I am sorry to any other Terrys out there (fine if you are a chocolate orange, or an adult, but not a small child).

Now I do know your surname. And of course your other DD's name. Esme goes well with both. Terry does not. Nor does Terrence. No.

Just plain no.

cyteen · 13/11/2008 14:58

terry is grim and will likely get shortened to tez no girl's name, however lovely, is worth that!

FlirtyThirty · 13/11/2008 14:55

Terry is so awful that even if Esme were my all-time, dream name for a child, I'd have to sacrifice it order to avoid the chance that I ended up with a Terrence! Sorry.

LuLuBai · 13/11/2008 12:28

Terence Donovan, father of Jason.....

swottybetty · 12/11/2008 22:36

terence conran might also fit your billing jane ....

janeite · 12/11/2008 21:58

My dad was totally NOT a "little geezer and handy in the house" though; so not all Terences are like that! I always thought it was a bit "boys' grammar then art school" but maybe that's just because I'm thinking of Terence Stamp?

katiek123 · 12/11/2008 21:56

terry: swotty, you can't, you just can't.get DH onto the thread and we'll talk (shout/cajole/order) him out of it.
esme fab. cecily fab (just don't think about the lisp thing - agree grim prospect) yes one of the atonement girls is cecily i am sure.

preggersplayspop · 12/11/2008 21:52

He must be a fonejacker fan? The great Terry Tibbs....

Italian marble fireplace, talk to me....

swottybetty · 12/11/2008 21:49

baby, i am curious to know what you think my surname is . the one other girls name we both love is Patience, but that REALLY doesnt work with surname.

oh no! is esme popular??

OP posts:
swottybetty · 12/11/2008 21:46

oh dear. i thought to enlighten dh and told him how much everyone loved my name and hated his. instead i have entrenched his feelings further - anyone would think he had a problem with MN and the good ladies who spend their time him.

cecily is pretty isnt it? is one of the girls in atonement cecily? always that fear of a lisp tho'....

pania, dh has no irony in him so i can only guess that his committment to terry is born of a genuine desire to have a little geezer. who would be v handy in the house. actually i really dont hate it as much as i should. but couldnt stomach terence and have a strict rule about having full and proper names on birth certificates

elsiepiddock · 12/11/2008 21:46

Esme gorgeous - but very popular.

Terry - horrendous!!

BabyBaby123 · 12/11/2008 21:44

especially if your surname is what I think it is - he will sound like an Eastenders character aged about 60!!

BabyBaby123 · 12/11/2008 21:43

sorry Terry is awful. Your dh sounds like he's being pretty immature tbh! have you got another girl's name you both sort of like so that you don't have to 'trade' because Terry is truly terrible imo....

pania · 12/11/2008 21:33

Why IS your husband so keen on it, I mean

janeite · 12/11/2008 21:29

Esme is gorgeous. Cecil is not gorgeous! Isn't it strange that Cecily for a girl is beautiful but remove one letter and it suddenly becomes horrible?! Terry was my dad's name, so I can't insult it - but it's not a name I would choose; I think it sounds very much "of its time" iykwim.

pania · 12/11/2008 21:28

Terry is awful IMO. Why does your dh so keen on it?

preggersplayspop · 12/11/2008 21:18

I think you should bin both of them and find a name you both agree with. One of you will go through life feeling hard done by otherwise.

Horton · 12/11/2008 21:12

Terry is an awful name. Awful. Don't do it.

frazzledoldbag34 · 12/11/2008 20:40

I hope you get your girl.
Otherwise my advice would be to deny all knowledge of any so-called 'deal'!!!!!

RubySlippers · 12/11/2008 19:57

terry is not great IMO

Esme rocks
