Really can't decide on a name for our overdue baby girl... can't decide between Alicia, Alissa, Lilia, Isabella, Tabitha or Alexa.. In fact think thats maybe why she's refusing to come out!
Want something pretty, a little different, but not out there ie apple; and not something overused or chavvy. English sounding too.
Opinions be soo welcome, or rating suggested names?
Anything..

Thans so much.

From your list, I like Tabitha best. I like Alice and Beatrix even more.

ravenAK · 23/10/2008 21:38

Dd1 is Alicia. I love it, but do have to correct pronunciation quite regularly.

slayerette · 23/10/2008 21:37

Alyssa rather than Alissa, surely?

Lizzylou · 23/10/2008 21:36

I know an absolutely rancid Alicia, so that would be a no.

dinkymum · 23/10/2008 21:35

Tabitha would be my choice from you list but all are lovely

ok well, I know 2 little Alicia both of whom pronounce it "aleesha" so, you may have confusion there? aside from that I like it, especially if you are planning on pronouncing it properly lol

Alissa and Lilia are both lovely.

Isabella pretty widespread these days, so if you want something a bit less in use then maybe not?

Tabitha is loveyl

not so keen on Alexa, although don't "dislike" it per se

Rindercella · 23/10/2008 20:50

I think all of the names you are considering are nice. But just to throw one more into the pot, which is quite unusual (but perhaps not very English), how about Abitheah? Egyptian origins I think. Very unusual, not at all common (in terms of usage), can be shortened to Abi, and is very pretty imo.

Anyway, Lulu is quite right in what she says, whatever name you pick half the people will love it, half will hate it. As long as you love it, that's all that matters. Good luck.

LuLuBai · 23/10/2008 20:22

Wow - I'm always amazed by the extreme differences in peoples name preferences. I think Tabitha is gorgeous (it would be in my top 5 if it weren't already snaffled up by good friends).

Just goes to show - ignore MN. Pick a name you love. Whatever you pick, half the people will hate it anyway and the other half will adore it.

She will grow into her name and personify it to those who know her.

LissyD · 23/10/2008 20:08

My name is Alicia, and it's casued me no end of trouble as I have a lisp, and people think I'm called alithia. Even though that's not a name.

I wanted to call my dd Isabella, but it ended up as a middle name due to Isabella Linton out of Wuthering heights being so annoying.

KateF · 23/10/2008 19:53

I thank you . None of them share a name with anyone at school so far.

Liffey · 23/10/2008 19:50

CountessD, I agree, Beatrix is a fabulous name.

I forgot Lila. This is ok. Too soft. Leila would be my prefered spelling, and that is very pretty, but I prefer names with a bit of back bone. IYSWIM.

PS, KateF, nice names, they 'fit in' and stand apart at the same time. They aren't typical for this generation.

Liffey · 23/10/2008 19:46

Given your own criteria, I'd go for Alice. It's the most classic version of Alyssa etc..

Isabella is very popular at the moment. It's pretty, but it's a mouthful. Annabel or Annabella prettier less used alternatives imo.

Alexa or 'Lexie' could be just a tiny bit the opposite of posh. If I were you, I'd put Alexandra on the birth cert and then nn her Alexa.

This is just personal taste of course, but Tabitha is a horrible name. Makes me think of witches and cats. I suppose it could be Beth for short though. That's all it has going for it.

Bubbaluv · 23/10/2008 17:08

Sorry I meant Pinkjenny!

Bubbaluv · 23/10/2008 17:08

Alexa would be my choice.
PinkJelly - what mistake do people make re your daughter?

VASTlargeginandbloodymary · 23/10/2008 16:45

Tabitha

KateF · 23/10/2008 16:42

Well, I have an Isabella so obviously like it best . She is nearly nine and I think in some areas (not here actually) it is quite popular now. Of your others I like Alicia and Tabitha but would change the others to Lily/Alice/Alexandra.
My other dds are Susannah and Philippa if you're looking for ideas

ramonaquimby · 23/10/2008 16:36

mmm
not keen on any of those
maybe Tabitha

what about Alice?

LaDiDaDi · 23/10/2008 16:26

Alexa is my favourite, I suggested it to dp last week as a name for a yet tbc dd2.

charleymouse · 23/10/2008 14:56

Lilia my favourite, DD was Abigail for a week then we changed our minds as it didn't suit her, some people still call her Abigail and she is 4 next month.

MrsMattie · 23/10/2008 14:51

Isabella is the most common, but the nicest. Tabitha is the only one I don't like - agree with Spidermama.

FlirtyThirty · 23/10/2008 14:49

There are hundreds of Isabelle/Isabella's where we live SW London. So for that reason I wouldn't consider it.

Of the others, my pice would be Alicia.
decide between Alicia.

Pinkjenny · 23/10/2008 14:38

Dd is Alexa. I love it. The only thing I would say is that 80% of people get her name wrong and it drives me insane.

LuLuBai · 23/10/2008 14:37

All pretty - I would pick Tabitha if I were choosing from your list, but they are all lovely. Agree with the others. Wait and see what she looks like when she is born.

MadreInglese · 23/10/2008 14:33

What about Imogen?
