Mungo keeps being brought up when we discuss names. Dh is not sure but I think it's a cool name which works well for both a young boy and an adult.
I'm hoping to convince dh. So what do you think?

Don't do it. Step a-way from the name! I get (and like) the "genre" of that sort of name but that specific, actual name is terrible to lumber a child with.

It will raise more smirks than admiration I fear. It also IMHO implies "trying too hard". Sorry.

I can't say I love mungo, but that's probably because I work at a school where every other kid is called 'Minti', 'Portia', 'Archie' or 'Theo'.
I didn't grow up around these sorts of names and just can't quite get used to them.

Anamaria, I'm sorry but people do criticise 'working class' names. Harry Enfield made quite a good living out of 'Wayne' and 'Waynetta'...

I like it but I think other people do regard me as daft . I think it gets the sort of reaction that my non daft friend got when she called her ds Oscar 15 years ago.

Why do you associate 'daft' with upper class....?

Would you also, for another name, say "Sounds like one of those daft names that really really working class people have"??????

I am not English, so have never understood the class thing, but I find it potentially quite hurtful to some people.

Its ok not to like a name. But to 'critise' (and call it daft) because it belongs to a certain class is a little surprising.

I like it. I think it's a grower and I wouldn't worry about the dog in the cartoon series. It was in the 70s after all and I don't think they'll be bringing it back somehow.

My friends called their baby Django, which I think has a similar ring. At first I was a bit concerned but it has really grown on me and any discomfort I may originally have felt has vanished.
