My friend is half indian/half english and her and her DH are looking for a name that will work in both cultures. Can you make any suggestions and I will refer her to this thread. Thank you.

Some of my dcs names have been on this thread. Doesn't happen often. Others we considered were boys - Vikram, Dev, Krishnan, Kiran
Girls - Jaya, Shobhana (Shovanna), Indrani

its more important to get the religion right, rather than the name.
so maryam, aisha hannah would work perfectly well if muslim, but not if hindu.
maya maha would work for both
ashok, anil, kiran for boys hindu names.

I think Ashok works well in English. Can be Ash for short to sound v. English.

I love Ellora and wanted this for my new baby due in 4 weeks. My DH is also mauritian(Indian) and I am English but alas he will not be persuaded! I also love Rohan for a boy!

Liking this thread - I am half indian and DH is english, it would be nice to use a name which would represent our heritages so I have taken down some of the names I really like.

I know you said they think its a boy, but if its a girl you can use my name if they like it which is "D a n i y a" (sorry for the crypticness, just didn't want this coming up in google!) It is derived from the hindi word for coriander - and my mum (the English half) saw it on a shop shelf and liked it! Its very rare too if they want something different!

My DH is of Asian origin though not at all traditional and I am mixed race so we have also attempted to think of Indian names that are suitable in this country.
We managed to agree on Maya for our first DD (although we spell in Maia).
Unfortunately, for our second child, a boy we failed to find one that we really liked and picked an English name.
It looks as if we may do that for DC3 too!
Here are some names that might be suitable:

Girls:
Maya
Leela (usually spelt Lila, I think)
Priya
Amba
Meera
Uma
Reena
Sita
Geena
Anjali
Zahra (depending on religion, etc)

Boys:
Kiran
Rohan
Prem
Anil/ Ajay

Lila is the hindi version of juliette as in romeo and... and is a version of lillian and is arabic too.
