For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

^Oohhh that's a fab name typsical!!! I don't think it's cruel at all, rather boho arty I feel! ...plus there'd be very few others with the same name!

Mabel's lovely! Very pretty I agree! Smile x

typsical · 19/11/2010 14:40

I love Somerby for a boy... But would it be 'cruel'? And what could it be shortened to?

Also love Mabel for a girl! Think it is so pretty, but not sure what other people would think...?

Lots of my favourite names on here, but DH vetoed them all for DD, I especially loved Livia, Octavia and Ursula and Julia.

DS I desperately wanted to call something Anglo-Saxon like Haestan, Godric, Wulfric or Leofric but DH immediately vetoed. If he had been a girl he would have been Aurelia as I had had four years to work on DH Grin. He ended up as Sebastian, but I suggested it weekly to DH from about 20 weeks pregnant until he finally gave in agreed, but it does fit in very well with the area we live in!

comewhinewithme · 19/11/2010 11:24

Agnes -I love it everybody else loathes it.

Bay- I almost convinced dp to use this but we were having a girl.

edam · 19/11/2010 11:22

Taliesin. Love it but too poncy in England where no-one would know how to pronounce it.

Rosebud05 · 19/11/2010 11:09

Bianca (pre-Eastenders, this was a wonderful name with a hint of Eastern European mystery)

Spike (how bloody cool can you get)

Nadia ( how I loved gymnastics in the '70s)

Gabriel (vetoed by dh before I got the first syllable out)

lilly13 · 19/11/2010 08:31

Tyler or Camron. Love lots of other Anglo-Saxon names, but DH and I are orthodox christians and need an orthodox name for our baby -- it is a tradition and means a lot from both cultural and religious standpoints to us and our families...

Icklelilly · 19/11/2010 05:26

All my fave names are on here too:

Ophelia
Allegra
Lucia

Love the italian thing but no family connection. DH especially takes umbrage as he's French....going towards Daphne but would really love Ophelia.

(Maximillian for a boy - no, really!)

hopingforfour · 19/11/2010 02:28

I went to school with loads of these names...a Dashiel(Dash), Ulysses, scads of boys with Jesse, Gabriel/Gabe, Thadeus... this was in the US though if it makes a diff...

I guess we were brave and went for what we loved...Emmett. we did get asked if we named him after Twilight. NO. Most people loved it though.

Not sure if we are brave enough but love Gus.
