For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

We both love it, but everyone would think we were being pretentious i think

polarfox · 22/12/2010 14:24

Dont laugh, but I love it : Luscious for a boy- DH would laugh no end if I suggest it,
love Roman names like Lidius, and Russian names too

bessie26 · 11/12/2010 22:58

Yoshimi - DH has forbidden me from even using it as a middle name. I don't see why - It would be handy to have someone around who could battle the pink robots Grin

TruthSweet · 28/11/2010 20:38

Tigerseyemum - DD1 is Lilith I'm vv grateful that DH is easily swayed amenable to his pg wife's naming requests Grin

I also liked Guinevere, Calantha, Iolanthe, Mere (why????), Ianthe during various pgs but went other choices probably more outlandish than than those).

darksideofthemooncup · 25/11/2010 23:44

Celeste - too poncy according to my dh. Also Jude for a boy, but we already have a Sadie so that is a no. Guy and Christian also feature on my list but are the names of significant exes so no to them too.

Summertime92 · 25/11/2010 23:32

Lolita but its connection with the vladimir nabokov novel its not right to name a little girl that! and Silas loved it until the da vinci codes evil, self harming monk was called silas!!! :)

aftereight · 24/11/2010 18:06

Tabitha
Felix

Basically, cats' names!

Oh, and Benedict

woolymindy · 24/11/2010 17:58

Paloma for a girl and Florian for a boy

doughnutty · 24/11/2010 17:56

I like Lexi but don't like any of the names this would be a nn for.

And I can't bring myself to use a nn as a name (it just wouldn't be proper!)

raspberrysanmurraspberrys · 24/11/2010 17:47

Thanks for all the suggestions MelinaM ! Some very interesting ones! DH loves Sebastian! (I'm not PG at the moment btw, just love names and like to have them prepared!!)

Snakeears · 21/11/2010 19:10

DH wanted Hanibul... I said no!

waterplate · 21/11/2010 13:15

I love Gretchen but DH hates it and everyone else points out the poor girl would be known as "Gretch the retch" her entire school career.

kittya · 21/11/2010 02:50

Mumcentreplus · 20/11/2010 20:37

Mercedes...

sillybillymummy · 20/11/2010 20:28

I love Delilah for a girl & Rupert for a boy. DH thinks Rupert sounds ridiculous

MelinaM · 20/11/2010 00:50

I think it's just perfect! ..reminds me of The Great Gatsby /Brideshead etc..Smile

I think... Somerby Sebastian sounds rather well (yes it's SS but well ..rules are meant to be broken)?! I think it needs something a little longer behind it, something short would sound like a dull note plonked on the end!
Hmm... now what elseHmm
Somerby Absalom
Somerby Hathaway
Somerby Ignatius
Somerby Winston ...Oohhh, or Somerby Churchill ..let's just throw the rule book away shall weGrin
Somerby Napolean
Somerby Othello
Somerby Salinger ..I really like this one!!! ..fab book too!
Somerby Solomon
Somerby Whittaker
Somerby Alchemy ..a little too bizarre? Ahh what the heck!

Just came across the name Willoughby (I'll think Sense & Sensibility, not that hideous this morning creature)Grin

typsical · 19/11/2010 20:53

:) Good to hear somebody likes it! I don't understand why it isn't more heard of! But what for a middle name...?! Somerby...
