For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

Sharon

I wanted to be Sharon K., my friend when I was 7 and I've always liked the name despite everything.

fruitstick · 04/10/2008 21:56

A few of these are on my names list, although you have put me off Benedict! I love Miriam but she was very annoying in Sons and Lovers.

DS1 is called Fred so Florence and Rose have been removed from my girls list!

PeppermintPatty · 04/10/2008 21:55

Marcie

PS. I also love Ramona Ivykaty

jollyoldstnickschick · 04/10/2008 21:54

CuppaTeaJanice · 04/10/2008 21:54

Orlando!

Lizzylou · 04/10/2008 21:41

My DS2 is at the childminders with a Rufus, it is a fab name!

Lizzylou · 04/10/2008 21:41

I love Gabriel, Noah, James (significant ex) and Lucien ( I love, DH not so much), all boys names I wasn't allowed to use.

I know a Clementine and she is utterly beautiful.

EachPeachPearMum · 04/10/2008 21:38

Septimus- DH says No, but I adore it!
Rufus too- but DH cannot pronounce 'R's very well

Cecily Margot - DC2 is going to be a boy, and there won't be any more after this one!

I agree with Ophelia, it's so pretty but what would it be shortened to? Phil? Not so nice.

angrypixie · 04/10/2008 21:37

I wanted Noah or Gabriel for a boy both vetoed as 'cruel'

Benedict, I went off it when one told me that he had lived with Bendy Dick as a nickname throughout school.

Tilly and Ellie I love them both but wouldn't use them when I realized that I was really childish and couldn't help rhyming them as Silly-Tilly and Smelly-Ellie

WinkyWinkola · 04/10/2008 21:36

Clementine is lovely.

StrangeTown · 04/10/2008 21:35

Genevieve ( not sure if that's even how you spell it)

Adair

Jesse for boy (think you can only get away with this is US)

EyeballsintheSky · 04/10/2008 21:35

Octavia, Ophelia, Lysander, Lucien, Demelza

littlelamb · 04/10/2008 21:35

Carrie. My surname would make it too too cruel.

Moomin · 04/10/2008 21:35

I think Silas is a little bit close to 'silage' and also can't help thinking of silas marner so it has tragic connotations. Know what you mean though.

I loved Gabriel or Scarlett but didn't quite have enough conviction to carry it through. Love hearing when other people have used them though. makes me feel strangely !

ShinyPinkShoes · 04/10/2008 21:35

Tallulah

Cantandwont · 04/10/2008 21:34

Clementine, Ursula, Arthur, Felix - apparently all "cruel"

LackaDAISYcal · 04/10/2008 21:34

Rufus....DH says it's a dog's name

Maisie....again vetoed by DH.

schwotz · 04/10/2008 21:34

Roger
