What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

I LOVE Ariel, but I think the washing powder comments would wear me/her down pretty quickly.

fyefoot · 06/10/2008 22:19

Unity - as in Unity Mitford. Not very PC!!

Fleecy · 06/10/2008 21:39

DS is on here several times (Sebastian).

If I could have anything, he'd have been Icarus and DD would have been Hero. But I'm such a conservative sort I wouldn't dare!

pushchair · 06/10/2008 21:38

i wanted Audrey after my very first friend at primary and i liked it but Dp said it would remind him of corrie's Audrey.

Ineedsomesleep · 06/10/2008 21:29

Minnie, after my very old and much loved Mini.

MissClavel · 06/10/2008 20:26

hatrick, intrigued about yours too. I wonder if we have an overlap?

Tallulah and Jared, no way that I would have used Tallulah though, possibly Jared but had 2 girls.

MissClavel · 06/10/2008 19:41

hatrick - all my 3 are now here too

wotulookinat · 06/10/2008 18:47

Daisy and Grace. I think both names would suit willowy, beautiful women, and there is a HUGE chance that any daughter I have would be a dumpy thing!!!

CuppaTeaJanice · 06/10/2008 18:37

Yippee - my thread made the 'Discussions of the Day' list on the Mumsnet home page!

(Feeling secretly smug!!!!)

...Going to get a cup of tea and read through all the posts......

My friend called her daughter Indigo and calls her Indy for short - which I think is fab! But she's that kind of person - always looking glamourous, a little boho and a free spirit. If we did it, my friends would think we were out of our tree and I just wouldn't have the guts to do it.

Do love it for her though - she's such a little Indy!

xx

Another Mungo-lover here. And Tristan.
We also have an unusual surname which does make it harder to give your DC too much of a unique name.

rookiemater · 06/10/2008 15:56

I love India but due to our unusual surname it would be a cruel and unusual punishment to name a child that. Oh and I'm not pregnant and our only DC is a boy.

Flier · 06/10/2008 15:56

Caitlin, Phylidia, Lydia and Letitia

WinkyWinkola · 06/10/2008 15:53

Ptolomy? How'd you pron. that then?

muppety · 06/10/2008 14:52

Gabriel, Julian and I LOVE Ptolomy.

Instead the 3 DS have boring top 10 names. I am a bit when I come across pepole who have been brave enough to use them.

oceana · 06/10/2008 14:05

Phoenix and Angel

My own name has been mentioned a couple of times Although I don't really know why as it's not that unusual.

3kids1cat · 06/10/2008 13:27

Morris, i would have loved a son called Morris.

SmugColditz · 06/10/2008 13:22

Jeremy

Honor - it was too cruel with our surname (not Blackman, but same sort of idea )

poorbuthappy · 06/10/2008 13:17

Lola - until I actually listened to the kinks song...

love Mabel until someone says table
love Charlotte until someone says harlott...

twin girls on the way - we are not naming until we see them cos we argue constantly about it...
