For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

Bracken - for a boy. When I was pregnant I was watching TV one evening when someone was captioned with the name 'Bracken'. Me and DH fell about laughing until, days later, I realised that I was still thinking about the name and that it would go perfectly with our surname. Needless to say, I didn't tell anyone... they'd have only blamed pregnancy hormones!

Claire -Anastasia was top of dp's list- I just couldn't bring my self to do it.
My si wanted to name her dc Romeo, just glad it was a girl

Claire236 · 08/10/2008 18:30

Anastasia - have loved it for years

e14mum · 08/10/2008 17:30

Frances or Francis. Love love love it, but it's too masculine for a girl and too feminine for a boy in my opinion.

Amethyst86 · 08/10/2008 16:23

Fleur or Ferne (both these names vetoed by dh) or precious stone type names, Ruby, Topaz etc - did not even dare to suggest this.

Tobias for a boy - which I absolutely love but DH was bullied by a boy at school by that name so wont have it and Asa.

piecesofeight · 08/10/2008 14:40

Aurora (Rory) for a girl. Otto or Ezra (Ez) for a boy. Maybe if I have another one ... ;)

BlueChampagne · 08/10/2008 13:10

Haroun - love it much more than more Anglo Aaron, but white British so would constantly be explaining.

I love Oleander.

muffinmum · 08/10/2008 00:34

Linden, for a boy, was vetoed in our house. DH thought it too feminine sounding. then i popped an 11lb 11oz rugger bugger of a baby. So I at least got George Linden, by batting my eyelashes over the weighing scales.

lilstarry1 · 07/10/2008 21:57

We almost named Mirabelle Mabel but an argument over whether it was EL or LE stopped me.

We seriously considered: Lilou, (lil-oo) Clementine (but "clem" makes me feel ill) and Aurelia (it doesn't really go with our surname). We still like Serafina..

IF we have a son we'll have far too many names to choose from:

Leonidas, Rhett, Serafin, Iorek,

I love discussing names !

Cressida
Cecily

Tarquin

This town is swimming with Clementines, Gabriels, Noahs, Lolas, and Moses. They are the more common ones

DD has a James in her class. That is unusual here.

Amy78 · 07/10/2008 20:26

I liked Gaby until my dad pointed out that if my daughter was anything like me she'd be known as Gobby!! Am also a teacher so many names remind me of little 'treasures' I'd rather forget!!

BTW is Silas not the psyco killer in Heroes? Just a thought!!
