For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

If I have another boy I'm calling him Shay. dh thought I was joking but now we're ttc he's getting nervous

themoon666 · 10/10/2008 09:48

Lola
Amber
Scarlett

oysterpots · 10/10/2008 09:39

I love Ossie too, Charliesweb, but DH said it sounds too like Aussie. I guess he's got a point.

I love Plum and Queenie for a girl too, but doubt I'd get those past DH either.

And Decca, "what, like Carol Decker...? Or Desmond Dekker?"(DH). No, you fool, like Decca Mitford.

My name is on this thread

Boobz · 10/10/2008 09:13

Dashiel is our first choice for a boy! I love it -- Dash for short. It's just so cool.

WhoPutThatThere · 10/10/2008 08:55

I love Dashiel (as in Dashiel Hammett, who wrote the Maltese Falcon) but DH just looked at me like I was mental when I suggested it.
We can't agree on a single name so far!

rosieglo · 10/10/2008 01:59

Orion and Achilles (ended ep using them as middle names for my gorgeus boys), Finn McCool - this name rocks but dh just laughed. For girls -Hero and Pheonix (may still go there!)

Lurcio · 09/10/2008 23:30

D'oh! sorry that should have said lurking less and posting more!

Lurcio · 09/10/2008 23:28

Yes, that's the one randomuser, although, since I've changed my name, I've been lurking more and posting less!
Was thinking that I would just have to wait til I have pets to use them... particularly Humphrey!

randomuser · 09/10/2008 23:11

Lurcio (a la Lurkio i.e. Frankie Howerd?) - 2 of those are names I called my guineapigs!

charliesweb · 09/10/2008 23:11

We really liked Ozzie or Ossie when pg with DS1 but the Osbournes was on then and so people would have assumed we had named him after Ozzie Osbourne. (Which we wouldn't have done we just liked the name, Ossie is a saxon name meaning spear).

I also like Mercedes but I didn't want people to think I had named DD after a car!

Lurcio · 09/10/2008 23:02

Humphrey

Charlotte (Lottie)
Pheobe
Hermione
Was told "NO" for all of them by DP, instead named DD Lucy and she is now known as Lucifer by several of our friends

randomuser · 09/10/2008 22:50

I keep hoping that people will forget about Genevieve as I hope to use it whenever I have a little girl.. can't believe DH actually went for it, really didn't think he would but it is in our top 3 for girls! Evie for short, I think..

maidenheadmum · 09/10/2008 22:45

What a fabulous thread. I loved Genevieve too, so pretty and Noah. I know a Kitty and she is so cute and pretty and a Stanley Elvis, superb name.We chose Polly for our daughter, which I wasn't sure about, but I love it now, there certainly aren't many about and it suits her perfectly, she's very petite and feminine.
I also loved Irish names, buy was worried about constant requests for spelling and pronunciation.

tenren · 09/10/2008 22:42

I really wanted Isadora for DD.

Instead we went with Sunday, which I love - and then some daft sleb goes and names their DD Sunday.

annoying.

BibiThree · 09/10/2008 22:27

Atticus for a boy, Aiko for a girl

Gingerbear · 09/10/2008 22:23

My DD has friends called Conrad and Elsie - brother and sister, and too lovely for words. Kids grow into their names.

crankytwanky · 09/10/2008 22:11

Ooh I like Felix and Tabitha too, but they are "cat names" apparently.
We both liked Raoul too, but somehow seemed odd as we're not Spanish, and in fact our Worst Holiday Ever was in Spain.

Bubbaloo · 09/10/2008 21:57

Felix,Barnaby and Tabitha.

crankytwanky · 09/10/2008 21:52

I really wanted Djibril for a boy. (Arabic for Gabriel, and ds born around Christmas time), but too associated with alleged wife-beating footballer Djibril Cisse.
Also liked Caspar (friendly ghost), Denzil (Cornish but associated with actor D.Washington), and Django.
Wanted Xanthe for a girl.

Granny22 · 09/10/2008 21:43

Lucien
Lucius
Agnes
Tearlach (Gaelic form of Charles,I would have had this but DP veoted it)
Heidi

... all lovely, couldn't use any of them..

jibbajabba · 09/10/2008 21:32

That is definately better than what my partner wanted: Dakota!

LesAnimaux · 09/10/2008 21:27

Ooh jibbajabba - you have a theme going on there! You can call your next DD Virginia.

jibbajabba · 09/10/2008 21:21

For those who wanted Indiana and didn't go with it. My Indiana is now 4 and has just started school. She loves her name and so do her friends.

Even my gran eventually said the name is perfect for her.

I worry that Georgia her younger sister will be unhappy that I didn't have the courage to go with Clementine or Genevive for her.

beansontoast · 09/10/2008 21:06

leroy
rex
solomon
rufus
bruno
nesta

wasnt allowed to have any of them...and any way it was a girl in the end!

LynetteScavo · 09/10/2008 21:03

Elsie
