What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

I also adore Silas@Cuppa

Zion for a boy. DH laughed in my face. My mum screeched in horror. nobody had a positive thing to say about it. It was all 'But you're not Jewish', 'Poor kid!', "Too 'out there'" type comments.

I still adore it, though.

Also, Fidel. Again, DH guffawed.

For a girl, I always loved Justice. Loved it from childhood. But DH vetoed as chavtastic.

Myfanwy.

You have to be Welsh, and it's probably open to lots of teasing, but I think it's a lovely, gentle-sounding name.

jengafer · 17/04/2009 22:00

Cordelia and delilah , love em

Minshu · 13/04/2009 14:04

My grandmother had a cousin called Rosabel in the early part of the last century in northern ireland. I love it but it's possibly a bit too twee to saddle a little girl with these days.

BananaFruitBunny · 13/04/2009 00:36

Emmeline.

And yes, her hands would be 'purfickly clean'.

Haroun - Arabic for Aaron. I love it. We went for super-trad English name in the end.

SK1980 · 13/04/2009 00:21

Nikita - pronounced with a posh accent. The trouble is that when not spoken in a posh accent it sounds like a lap dancer's name! :-)

Round these parts a Tuppence is an erm.... front bottom - despite it being an extremely cute name. Made me chuckle though lol.

I love Boris, Lester and Queenie

ChunLi · 22/02/2009 16:50

Damian....almost DS2's name but had alot of feedback about 'the omen'

... turns out it would have been more than appropriate though!

Joaquin for a boy. I just like the sound of it, and I actually am a bit Spanish, just don't think we're brave enough to pull it off!

Thunderduck · 16/02/2009 11:49

Darwin. Dp loves it too, so when we become parents we might still consider it. Poor kid.

RachePache · 15/02/2009 21:20

I've always loved Gilbert (yes, another AofGG fan) - but it wouldn't go with existing DCs's names.

Woby · 15/02/2009 21:13

Hero, Savannah or Tamar for a girl.
Milo for a boy.
