What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

Juno - love the name but no one else I know does, especially in my family!

CuppaTeaJanice · 28/07/2010 15:03

Aww, my old Silas thread is back!

It's like welcoming home a long lost child - I was so proud when he made it into the 'Discussion of the day' list back in 2008!!!

Spike for a boy. Doesn't go with our surname, vetoed by dh, and possibly a bit bold for me, but I love it.

skyeplusbump · 27/07/2010 22:50

jezebelle- i LOVE this name so much i actually considered it for dd

mixedmamameansbusiness · 27/07/2010 16:24

And pretty any Shakespeare character.

Benvolio
Mercutio
Ophelia

etc etc you get the picture

mixedmamameansbusiness · 27/07/2010 16:21

Atticus - mainly because I would just never be allowed. I am pushing for Jem this time if a boy though.

LeviStubbsTears · 27/07/2010 15:02

Jerome.

Friend said it was pretentious and effete. A bit better thought of in Ireland, I think (DH is Irish), but we are unlikely ever to live there.

(This is a fascinating thread! Arthur is the only name I'm considering that others on here have vetoed.)

Kathleen123 · 27/07/2010 14:40

Flavia - girls names.

Arthur - boys name

sonniebonnie · 27/07/2010 13:06

LJS666, why "is it a good job that you have boys". I LOVE your chosen girls' names .

In fact almost all names on this thread are gorgeous. Perhaps we should all be a little more 'brave'...!

LJS666 · 27/07/2010 12:10

Isolde and Cressida.

LJS666 · 27/07/2010 11:54

It's a good job I have boys as I love the following girls' names:

Hermione
Antigone
Jocasta
Jacinta
Ariadne
Felicity

but would have reigned myself in and opted for Kate!

ruty · 20/04/2009 11:06

Evangeline

qumquat · 20/04/2009 11:05

I love Jesse for a boy and Hero for a girl. Sadly wouldn't feel able to inflict them on my children though.

bridewolf · 20/04/2009 10:45

i love the names my sister has called her girls...

alanna joan

annie rose

heavenstobetsy · 20/04/2009 10:25

Hector! Heard it the other day and really love it in a would-never-use-it-myself way

MrsTittleMouse · 18/04/2009 22:14

Raffety.
Just as well we had girls!

scotagm · 18/04/2009 22:12

Always thought I might move to a croft in the middle of nowhere (not really) and bring up Skye, Summer and Blue. Never going to happen!

Boy at DS nursery called Stanley - love it. Have a secret hankering for this if we ever have a ds2.

Lola - love it. DP, not keen.

RoobeeToozdae · 18/04/2009 21:00

atowncalledalice -love Django
Emmanuel - I love Jewish boys names.

Calypso
Carmen
Blythe
Dulcie

All these vetoed by DP

pacinofan · 18/04/2009 19:49

We have girls but I loved Lenonard for a boy. Dh hated it, much too old fashioned! Frank was another close runner.

Also, adored and still do, Maude for a girl. Dd2 was almost registered as * * Maude but right at the last minute we ditched it. Wished we hadn't, still love it!

PheasantPlucker · 18/04/2009 19:48

My dh vetoed

Emmeline

Clementine (even though our very beautiful ex-babysitter now fabbo trained midwife has this lovely name)

Evangeline

Boudicca (in tribute to my East Anglian roots!)

I always wanted Orlando for a boy. That did not go down well either.

funtimewincies · 18/04/2009 19:36

Gloria - dh has been muttering word like 'body', 'dead' and 'my' !
