Bloody men!!

For ages we have decided to call baby either Toby or Sebastian. Now I have asked him a million times for other suggestions but he has come up with NOTHING!!!

Now after talking to some random woman at work he has decided he LOVES the name Christian/Kristian and wants to call the baby this. Talk about last minute!!!

Now I don't dislike the name but my heart is set on Toby and even though I like Christian I don't like the thought of it being shortened to Chris.

So, any opinions on Christian???

Yes, good luck

And... you know the argument to end them all, don't you? Apart from the fact that you're the one giving birth - presumably this child is going to carry dh's family name/surname? So only fair that you get to choose the other one!

MmeLindt · 19/09/2008 09:16

HW
Good luck today

FairLadyRantALot · 18/09/2008 22:38

Love the name Christian

avaj · 18/09/2008 21:15

Dont worry about it, you will get the final say anyway!
He cannot deny you that, once you've brought his perfect baby into the world!
(personally I like Sebastian!)

hw2004 · 18/09/2008 14:44

I think the thing that gets to me more than anything is the fact that i'm sure that at some point i'll want to shorten the name - I do tend to do this particularly with babies. i cannot think of another shortening for christian apart from Chris and I really, really don't like that as people will think i've called baby christopher.

think i just won't mention names to dh again until tomorrow when hopefully he'll have to be so nice to me he'll give in. I got my way last time - lol.

I always think if as "a follower of Christ".

SoupDragon · 18/09/2008 14:04

Not Christian.

giraffemum · 18/09/2008 14:00

Toby gets my vote. DP is called Toby and is very tall and handsome(IMO!). There's not that many about and can't be easily corrupted, apart from Tobes. All the Christians I've met have been a bit 'special' and verging on the drippy.

Definitely agree with dittany- you'll get your way once LO arrives! good luck x

conniedescending · 18/09/2008 13:57

I love the name Sebastian and would have named ds that in a flash but DH said it sounded like bastard

Toby is nice - have you considered Tobias with Toby as nn?

MuffinMclay · 18/09/2008 13:48

Oh, but everyone shortens his name to Chris (apart from grandmothers - one calls him Chrissiekins )

MuffinMclay · 18/09/2008 13:46

I like it. Tis my BIL's name. He is very tall, very attractive, and reasonably successful in life.

largeginandtonic · 18/09/2008 13:39

Love all the names, every Christian i have known has been stunning looking and very succesful

NorbertDentressangle · 18/09/2008 13:36

There does seem to be a lot of Tobys around at the moment -not sure if thats a problem for you or not?

The only Christian I know was someone I went to school with -it was never shortened to Chris, he was always Christian.

Peachy · 18/09/2008 13:33

I know an extremely sexy Christian by the way.

Obviously as a nice bloke I get on with who is also sexy he's also gay, but gawd is he sexy!

Peachy · 18/09/2008 13:32

I have a 5 month old Sebastian (known as bas usually) and I get lots of positive feedback about the name- excepting my Dad who only liked my eldests name, Samuel. Hard cheese then dad

All that matters is what you and your dh like; everyone else will be fine. It's not as if you're considering calling him totty-magnet is it?

floaty · 18/09/2008 13:28

I have a Toby, not drippy! To be honest I always think of Christians being a bit drippy althouhg the only one we know is called Kit for short

fortyplus · 18/09/2008 13:16

Honestly I'm just biased because I only know two Tobys and they're both... how can I put it kindly? A bit unusual. Neither of them are mischievous - unless you count one of them hurling his wendy house down the stairs in temper when he was about 8!

LOL at thinking DH has changed his mind about having baby. I've just re-read my thread title and it does look like that - my god - now that would be a problem (puts my name issues into perspective )

I don't think DH will go for Sebastian so it will be a straight choice between Toby and Christian. Funny how some people think toby sounds wet as that is dh's problem with it - i think it sounds like a mischievious little boy. not sure I could imagine a tiny baby called Christian???

I thought the same thing as fortyplus, then I noticed the topic.

My brother is called Christian (my mum is one, he isn't) when he was a teenager everyone called him Chris, now they don't. I do really like the name.

pgwithnumber3 · 18/09/2008 12:37

I really really like Christian - my mum's best friend has a son called Christian and he is a hottie Doctor! Underused name so you would be amongst the common lot. Toby a bit wimpy imo and Sebastian is nice but still prefer Christian.

fortyplus · 18/09/2008 12:33

lol @ 'Christian sounds a bit old fashioned!! ' They're all old fashioned which is why they're nice middle class names!

browntrout · 18/09/2008 12:32

Are you or your DH Christian? Only because I always think of it in terms of it's origin ie follower of Christ. Or maybe that's just me as no one else seems to have the same association

HorseStories · 18/09/2008 12:08

I have always loved the name Christian and like FortyPlus, the people I know who are called it are confident and cool and never shortened to Chris.
