What do you think? Is this a safe bet or do I need to go back to the drawing board?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I don't like it.

Weegiemum · 11/09/2008 08:35

Lewis is an Island, I used to live there.

There are so many little boys called Lewis up there!

Aero · 10/09/2008 23:30

That's my ds1's, not my brothers (who is ny nephew anyway). Missed out the all important comma there!

Aero · 10/09/2008 23:28

It's a top name! It is not necessarily a surname at all (any more than Lewis etc).

It's a hugely important family name for me, so I hold it very dear and it's definitely not new either.

'Tis my Dad's name, was my Great-grandfather's name(b 1800s), was my Grandfather's middle name, is my brother's ds1's and my first nephew's middle name and now is my newest nephew's first name and I'm sure it will carry on in our family for years to come. I love it - can you tell? Perfectly safe, not unheard of. Go for it I say! Oh, and everyone calls my Dad by his full first name - it's never shortened. His nickname in his schooldays was derived from his surname!

jellybeans · 10/09/2008 22:53

Don't like any surnamey names such as Jackson, Mckenzie etc, really don't like them.

FanjolinaJolly · 10/09/2008 22:47

Pollock.

Sorry,no.

Kewcumber · 10/09/2008 22:45

(Oh and Morgan and Lewis are first names which became a surnames too not the other way around )

mazzystar · 10/09/2008 22:42

actually isn't Lewis an island?

Love Jackson.

Kewcumber · 10/09/2008 22:41

I like ti but then don;t understand not liking surnames as first names - in Wales all surnames were first names - John Evan son = John Evans; David ap (son of) Richard = David Pritchard etc

Heated · 10/09/2008 22:39

God no! Jackson's, as in Jackson Pollock is rhyming slang

MakemineaGandT · 10/09/2008 22:39

No. It is a surname.

Same goes for:

Lewis
Harrison
Morgan
Taylor
etc etc etc

just don't.

I like Jackson. Reminds me of the Nancy Sinatra song about a couple breaking up...

"BOTH: We got married in a fever hotter than a pepper sprout
We been talkin' 'bout Jackson
JOHNNY: Ever since the fire went out
I'm goin' to Jackson, I'm gonna mess around (yeah?)
Yeah, I'm goin' to Jackson, look out Jackson town

JUNE: Well, go on down to Jackson, go ahead and wreck your health (hmm)
Go play your hand, you big-talkin' man, make a big fool of yourself
Yeah, yeah, go to Jackson, but go comb that hair
JOHNNY: I'm gonna snowball Jackson
JUNE: Go ahead and see if I care "

LittleMissBliss · 10/09/2008 22:15

damn emoticons! that should have been

LittleMissBliss · 10/09/2008 22:14

Oh i like Jackson. That's what dp used to get called in his teens. It's actually his last name though. Lots of the guys were refered to by their last names for some reason [hhm]. I would call our child Jackson if it wasn't his sir name cos now that is just crazy!.

Boobz · 10/09/2008 22:08

My dog is called Jackson...

MrsMattie · 10/09/2008 21:52

generally against surnames as first names but I like jackson. reminds me of Jackson Browne, and of cool American guys in leather jackets drinking bourbon

Raahh · 10/09/2008 21:46

I personally dislike surnames as first names- DH wanted Sumner ( thankfully we had a dd)- but he is of U.S. stock, so maybe it is a cultural thing.

AbbeyA · 10/09/2008 20:53

The good thing about it is that you can shorten it to Jack for everyday use.

avaj · 10/09/2008 20:44

Yeah I like Jackson.
I like surnames as first names, I think they manage to sound different but traditional at the same time.

frazzledoldbag34 · 10/09/2008 20:22

As long as you dont spell it with an X.
I know of one spelt JAXON.
Please don't do that!

CaptainUnderpants · 10/09/2008 18:48

I like Jackson . I call my DS that even though he offically has the shorter more common version.

Podrick · 10/09/2008 18:41

Is it safe?
Er no - Jack is safe
