Hi, I know it's a bit weird, but Captain Corelli's Mandolin is my favourite book and the little girl in that is called Lemoni...I love it, but don't want my child to be teased and ostracised! Would appreciate any thoughts!

It wouldn't be Lemon-y, it would be Leh-mon-ee I presume (excuse crap phonetics!) Fine if you're living in Greece or Cyprus, maybe fime in the UK if your family is Greek or Cypriot but otherwise.....I think it's maybe too different.

Go for it if you really like it though

Janni · 14/09/2008 15:23

You could give her a more traditional name that does not sound wildly different to Lemoni and call her Lemoni as your pet name for her. I think it's quite sweet as a nickname.

gagamama · 14/09/2008 14:48

Maybe you could go with Leoni or Melanie? Sort of similar-sounding... but less citrus-y?

yummymummy1405 · 13/09/2008 21:48

being honest it was DH's suggestion for dd as a cross between lemon and naomi.

We didnt use it.

ScottishMummy · 13/09/2008 20:57

snickett?that is a name that will meet with derision and incredulity.sounds like a kitchen cleaning product

KristinaM · 13/09/2008 20:53

no sorry

Blandmum · 13/09/2008 20:52

Only if your surname is Snicket

swampster · 13/09/2008 20:50

I think that's what DS2 has named his sister (who is actually a beach pebble). He is two so it sounds a bit like Yemoni, as in Yittle Yemoni.

He is due a RL brother or sister early next year but I don't think he will have much say in the naming .

MannyMoeAndJack · 13/09/2008 20:29

That book is great and I also really this name too so go for it!

TheMadHouse · 13/09/2008 20:08

ethanchristopher · 12/09/2008 07:52

i dont like it

and she will be teased

nooka · 12/09/2008 00:35

Serena is a beautiful name

pointydog · 11/09/2008 22:58

Soup is an excellent name all round.

SoupDragon · 11/09/2008 22:56

No, I'm called Soup, obviously.

Bowddee · 11/09/2008 22:54

Sorry for this but...

Thinking about the future, the name sounds better suited to a porn star than a managing director.

IMO.

pointydog · 11/09/2008 22:50

aare you called lemoni, soup?

SoupDragon · 11/09/2008 22:48

I was teased about my name at school and it's miserable.

SoupDragon · 11/09/2008 22:48

No, no and no again. she will be teased appallingly. As DH would say "why don't you start bullying her now and be done with it".

Quattrocento · 11/09/2008 22:32

Will only work if your surname is Snicket.

No actually I like it. It's a bit silly but I do like it. Good luck.

pointydog · 11/09/2008 22:30

It's an excellent name all round.

insywinsyspider · 11/09/2008 22:21

its a lovely name - if you like it go for it x

PeppermintPatty · 11/09/2008 22:21

I like it. Not sure if I would use it though.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 11/09/2008 22:08

I think the potential problem is that English-speaking folk will probably pronounce it Lemonny, ie 'a bit like a lemon', which does sound like a description for air freshener.

I'm guessing the name is Greek and, if you have Greek roots, then why not go with it if it's your favourite name, but you will spend years explaining the name to people and correcting their pronunciation.
