I love both Laura and Lorna. They are such feminine, pretty names and also traditional and classic. My dd is Laura (2.5), named after Laura Ingalls (sp, havn't had cuppa yet!!) of Little House on the Prairie fame.

Love Lorna too because of the literary connection. Also like Leah.

So if have another dd will have to wrack brains to make sure their names don't sound too similar.

I have a Lorna. She's nearly 7 and I have never come across another girl her age with that name - we chose it because it isn't used very much. I like Laura but thought Lorna was more unusual.

It sounds really dated to my ears.

summerstrawberry · 06/09/2008 00:05

My middle name as we have Scottish connections.
I've never liked it tbh.

mustrunmore · 01/09/2008 09:22

I think its a superb name.
But the downside is that she wont be able to spend her souveneir money on personalised tat from gift shops; there's hardly any stuff with that name! Then again, I've called my kids names that I've never seem on a keyring or a room plaque etc, so who I am to talk?!

flyinglizzards · 31/08/2008 22:10

Wonders if notagrannyyet could possibly know me lol

pointydog · 31/08/2008 22:00

There is a male Scottish name Lorn/Lorne

Tommy · 31/08/2008 22:00

I like Lorna although there was a Lorna in my class at school and we called her Lorna Mower...

It's pretty though - and under-used

notagrannyyet · 31/08/2008 21:58

Yeah, it doesn't have anything to do with Scotland if it was invented by Blackmore for Lorna Doone. She was in the West Country.

Janni · 31/08/2008 20:16

Don't agree that it needs to be Scottish. I had a very cool, stylish, rather well-spoken English friend called Lorna and think it's an excellent name.

lunavix · 31/08/2008 20:14

love it

actually I wanted it for future dds - had picked it after reading lorna doone when very small!!!

pointydog · 31/08/2008 20:12

I quite like it. Am i Scotland so possibly different perception.

lotsoflovelychocolate · 31/08/2008 19:57

I like it a lot.

raindropsonroses · 31/08/2008 19:27

Okay if you're Scottish, a bit meh if you are not.
Dated too. I know of two in their forties.

AbbeyA · 31/08/2008 19:26

Lovely.

dinkymum · 31/08/2008 19:21

Love it, used to teach the sweetest little girl called Lorna which really helps with my positive feelings towards it too!

xx

piratecat · 31/08/2008 18:03

i LIKE that name.

beanieb · 31/08/2008 17:57

You could use the Welsh 'Lona' too

pamelat · 31/08/2008 17:56

My friend has just called her dd Lorna.
It really surprised everyone as its such a "grown up" name.

cyteen · 31/08/2008 15:10

I don't like it, never have. Also it reminds me of someone at my secondary school who stole my friend's coursework and tried to pass it off as her own, so double no.

LaylaandSethsmum · 31/08/2008 15:07

I'm surprised how many of you like Lorna, I'm a Lorna and have to say I didn't like it growing up, I was normally called Laura and constantly had to spell it , would you believe, and still do!
FIL still ,after knowing me for 13 yrs ,spells it LAUNA !!!

I've had Launa, Lawna , Lorner ....
