CHRISTOPHER

It really is a great, underused name.

Shortenings - Kit, Kip, Tiff, Chris (Chris? Really?)

None of my DSes are called it, but it is a great name

Isn't Christopher in the top 100 so not underused at all.
I don't like it. sorry

unknownrebelbang · 31/08/2008 00:08

DS1 was the only Christopher in his whole time at primary I think.

There is one in yr6 now but I don't think he came until DS1 left.

Clary · 31/08/2008 00:00

naily you are kidding about William.

We know hundreds. Four in DD's yr of 32 boys, so 1 in 8...

(And one small Christopher - sometimes known as Kiffer which I think is sweet).

Can I add Michael and John to this list of possibilities.

My mum's name is very popular now but she never knew any until the last 10 years - think Hannah or Olivia.

zippitippitoes · 30/08/2008 21:57

my mums name was barbara

not very fashionable either

dont think my kids would have enjoyed being brian and barbara and er maybe my grandmas name gertrude

pgwithnumber3 · 30/08/2008 21:54

I know a grandmother, daughter and granddaughter all with the same name - Barbara! The other daughter is called Anne and the granddaughter is Barbara Anne.

Olihan · 30/08/2008 21:38

I actually really like it as a name but it's very a bit weird to give your dc your parent's name - shows a distinct lack of imagination!

(My MIL has the same name as her mum. Her dad was left to register the name so he decided as it was a good enough name for his wife, it was a good enough name for her daughter . He didn't even give her a middle name so she had a choice . Poor MIL)

RhinestoneCowgirl · 30/08/2008 21:32

DH is Christopher (early 30s), but I only call him that if he's in trouble . Good strong name I think...

pgwithnumber3 · 30/08/2008 21:30

You're alright then Olihan!

pgwithnumber3 · 30/08/2008 21:30

Oh well, it seemed a good idea!

Baby Brian/Vivian - doesn't sound right, whatever made our grandmothers pick these names for babies!?

Olihan · 30/08/2008 21:28

Mine would be Christopher

zippitippitoes · 30/08/2008 21:25

mine would be brian

I think we should all call our children after our fathers, that would bring a few outdated names back into fashion.

Mine (if a boy) will therefore be Peter...

pgwithnumber3 · 30/08/2008 21:21

Christopher is a great name but I love Christian more. I have mentioned Christian to DH throughout all 3 pregnancies but he is a bit about it.

zippitippitoes · 30/08/2008 20:56

it is my brothers name

i called him cuffer when i was little

expatinscotland · 30/08/2008 20:50

no.

i prefer Struan .

MamaG · 30/08/2008 20:50

hurrah ro unknown! Good on you.

Trust me, cousin's DS would have been weird if he'd been named John

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 29/08/2008 22:34

I love this name so much I called DS1 it.

thumbwitch · 29/08/2008 22:30

MamaG - now there's a question - would he have been weird if he hadn't a weird name? Or is the fact that your cousin gave him a weird name indicative that she was weird and it's genetic?

MamaG · 29/08/2008 22:28

MB

20 years ago m y cousin called her son "Kristos" to be a bit different - imagine having "toss" in your name. He's a weird boy as well

OP posts:
Blandmum · 29/08/2008 20:53

But wouldn't people want to spell it Krisduffer, just to make sure their child was 'really unique'

pamelat · 29/08/2008 19:20

Lots of Williams around here. I really like it buts its as popular as Alfie & Archie here (but thats only because they are great names!)

No Christophers and its a nice name. Nothing to dislike about it but doesnt rock my boat.

I like Alex.
