with the Baby Names threads?
Just call your baby what you like when it is born ... and then people can get used to calling your baby Tooty Frooty Smith or whatever as it is a done deal ....

But please stop listing names like:

Dante
Hector
Edith (Does anyone remember "'Allo 'Allo")
Blaise
Milton
BAYARD??? WTF?

I can't stand it anymore ....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

ShePeeTeePee - emmmm well now i know.any scanties advice straight to MN. NOT

LuLuBai · 26/08/2008 11:48

I'm with Janni - I love, love, love baby name threads. From the sublime to the ridiculous they are always a great source of entertainment, and just occasionally a great source of inspiration.

FabioTheFlouncingCat · 26/08/2008 11:48

3andnomore - call it Fabio

lol sputnik

When you see a name coldly sitting there in active convos, you ca think euch quite easily. But when you are presented with, or just told of, a new baby and its name you're more inclined to go Awwwww.

Unless it is called Vagina Fungulele in which case you'd probably be so shocked you'd drop it.

ShePeeTeePee · 26/08/2008 11:47

Scottish mummy - there was a knicker choosing thread recently. I've saved it in my watch-list and will be plundering it for ideas later! Chose my babies' names all by myself however - well, in consultation with DH of course.

I wonder if a sociological phenomena is emerging - the baby-forum names. Ten years time and people will just nod, and say ahhh... your mum must have spent too much time on Mumsnet/NetMums/BoobsandBabes etc.. etc.

What's the quintessential mumsnet name?

TsarChasm · 26/08/2008 11:45

They should make it the law that you aren't allowed to officially name your baby until it's a year old. Pregnancy hormones should have calmed down by then.

Mind you, I do think Tooty Frooty Smith is a first class name ghosty

Janni · 26/08/2008 11:41

See how much I love them!

Janni · 26/08/2008 11:41

No! I love the baby name threads - they're a huge source of entertainment and even satisfaction. I'm never going to name another baby of my own, so I kid myself that my input MIGHT actually influence someone else. Or that I might save a child from having a cruel name inflicted upon them by a hormonal madwoman

true sputnik, there was a thread title a while ago that said,

Dyson, Miele, and something else.

I clicked on, very excited about another baby name thread to find it was someone wanting opinions on hoovers. pah.

still love them babyname threads though.

Sputnik · 26/08/2008 10:54

Yes, it's getting beyond a joke now when I see a thread title like "Yakult or Actimel" and just think "oh, another baby name thread"

scottishmummy · 26/08/2008 10:48

would one veto a name on basis of MN opinion?would Verucca become verrucae or plantar wart to appease

giddly · 26/08/2008 10:44

What I'd like to know is how many of these people asking about really ridiculous unusual names actually follow through with it. I bet their kids are all called something nice and normal like Emma or James in the end.

scottishmummy · 26/08/2008 10:40

labia minora is a gorgeous name too. classy and sassy

ghosty · 26/08/2008 10:38

What do you think of Cystitis Vergina?
That's what my next child will be called ...

OP posts:
ghosty · 26/08/2008 10:36

That is part of my point Scottishmummy - why do people open themselves up to these things? If you want to call your child Topaz or Gertrude then just do it ...
Please.

Mouldida
Rancidica
Odourata
Bilious

scottishmummy · 26/08/2008 10:31

name threads also start so many scraps
I like bilious it is a beautiful name
Oi no i hate it makes me sick
Shut up thats my baby name
blah blah

i have no idea why one would ask strangers to comment on their baby name.something so personal and unique to you

might as well ask a wee woman in asda
or the postie

do you ask strangers to help chose yer knickers?

probably not (i hope not) so why ask opinion's on something that pertinent to you

out of interst would you change names if folk didnt like Verruca or Verrukka?

VictorianSqualor · 26/08/2008 10:20

He is only five weeks old, DS1 named him. He is the greediest kitten of the four though. And sleeps loads.

edam · 26/08/2008 10:19

Oh, I know Fimbo, don't worry!

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 26/08/2008 10:07

I know a Bayard.

He wasn't bullied!

3andnomore · 26/08/2008 10:06

lol Fimbo...
hecate, I agree...what especially gets me is when people are all h, that is so chavtastic!
About names that are clearly NOT mispelled or made up....it's only that a different spellingvariant is used...
Also, I suppose every single name was made up at one point....lol....

lol at VS @ having a cat called Dave....sorry that really tickled me....it is kinda a cool cat name of course....is he a fat and lazy cat? Don't know, but I have a Garfield version in my head when thinking of a ca called Dave...no idea why though, lol!

thumbwitch...lol...now can't have a chavtastic Kitten....poor thing would never live it down....

Fimbo · 26/08/2008 10:00

Edam, that was a direct quote from the poster not me (just to clear that up!).

edam · 26/08/2008 09:58

Caitlin's fine if spelt correctly with a C. And are you sure the baby you think was called 'K' was not in fact a Kay or Kaye? Very respectable names - read The Snow Queen, The Box of Delights or The Once and Future King.

tryingtoleave · 26/08/2008 09:56

I love the crazy babyname threads - they give dh and me something to giggle at over dinner...

VictorianSqualor · 26/08/2008 09:54

I really like Dante, didn't use it though, and my cat is called Dave.
