Dexter - final thoughts please

I know this name has been mentioned before but I am now down to the last six weeks and so have got to think about making a decision. Both dh and I love the name because we are fans of the tv series and so are finding it hard to be objective about the name. Some people we have mentioned the name to have laughed, some just hated it. Our only other name option is Harry, which I like but it just doesn't grab me the same as Dexter but I am concerned that my pregnant brain may make the wrong decision. I want some honest opinions please. What do you really think to the name Dexter? If you don't like it,why?

Dexter is a fantastic name. If you love it, you should use it. It's a great choice. Which ever name you choose, you will not please everyone. The trouble with the name Harry is that each one I know has to have his surname added to it so you know which one you're talking about.

I love the name Dexter, and would happily use it if we have a boy, but my DH doesn't agree. Go for it!

scottishmummy · 12/02/2011 00:35

dont name baby after a shitty tv series.thats too contrived

crystalglasses · 12/02/2011 00:18

No, no, no, o. Too awful for words.

dexifehatz · 12/02/2011 00:09

I have a Dexter Miles aged 5,so born before the TV show! Dexter is a fab name and it's great as there are no other Dexters in his school, let alone class!! He is a very cheeky, frckly young man who lives to the beat of his own drum.

LiquoriceLila · 03/02/2011 23:03

I think Dexter is a fab name : )

LetThereBeRock · 03/02/2011 20:42

This thread is more than two years old.I'm sure the OP has chosen a name by now.

Bagpusstree · 03/02/2011 20:36

Love Dexter. And you can only love Dexter the serial killer anyway!
Also, Disenchanteds little Dexter would be enough to sway me.... Gorgeous Grin

strawberrylion · 03/02/2011 19:59

LOVE Dexter...actually know two under 3 Smile

Carrotsandcelery · 03/02/2011 19:10

We have a Dexter in our family and I love the name. I also love the tv series and fwiw although he is a serial killer he does have a social conscience Grin

Hedwig3 · 03/02/2011 19:04

I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Meetmyselfcomingback · 03/02/2011 18:35

I LOVE it! I have a Dexter & get many comments about it... the worst was "that's a very bold name..".

Most people think it's great, some think it's just another name... and it is.

(I originally wanted Rex but my husband said he'd never make it through school...he has a point so Dexter it was.)
Go with it if you love it.

:)

DisenchantedPlusBump · 22/08/2008 10:37

Cheeky is the word! thanks x

reginaphilangy · 21/08/2008 22:19

Was just about to say that i don't like the name Dexter when i opened disenchanteds photo - i've changed my mind now

What a gorgeous cheeky little boy you have disenchanted

preggersplayspop · 21/08/2008 21:39

I really like Dexter, but then I had a bit of a crush on Dexter Fletcher in Press Gang , and really wanted to be Julia Swahala (sp?).

I've not seen the serial killer programme so it doesn't have any negative connotations for me.

My DH doesn't like it at all though.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 21/08/2008 21:34

Thanks

Donk kills another thread....

Donk · 21/08/2008 20:54

"Sinister dexter sinister dexter sinister dexter"
(Roman decurion drilling recruits....)

(OK,Latin scholars, I don't know what the correct endings would be...)
I probably wouldn't use it as a name......

DisenchantedPlusBump · 21/08/2008 20:49

I like it.

PrettyCandles · 20/08/2008 15:41

It's a nice enough name, IMO, but what if he turns out to be left-handed?

chandellina · 20/08/2008 15:39

just wanted to add we ended up naming our son Maxwell - another murderer's name, a la the Beatles' song. It was a toss up between Max and Mack - also a murderer - "Mack the Knife."
LOL

TheProvincialLady · 20/08/2008 15:36

I really dislike it too (and it reminds me of Press Gang, I must be about your age ronshar!)
