I haven't come across many- or any small boys called this name what are the thoughts on this name- I haven't heard it commented on in any of the other 'baby names' bloggs

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pgwithnumber3 · 19/08/2008 23:26

Sorry, should have wrote Countess! Sorry if I offended you CountessDracula!

pgwithnumber3 · 19/08/2008 23:25

Cuuntess and edam have just replied with exactly what I was about to - it sounds like a wet bit of a wimpy name to me. Sorry!

edam · 19/08/2008 23:24

Tim nice but Tim and Ronnie Corbett are the first things that spring to my mind, I'm afraid.

Timothy is such an, um, wet name - all those soft sounds, just the one hard consonant all lonely at the start.

CountessDracula · 19/08/2008 23:23

it sounds wet to me

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 19/08/2008 23:23

I'd forgotten about Timmy the dog. And what about Mr Mallett?

EyeballsintheSky · 19/08/2008 23:22

LOL DH is Tim so am interested to see everyone's thoughts on it. He's never Timothy, occasionally Timotei though

LynetteScavo · 19/08/2008 23:21

I like it - Tim goes really well with our surname, so was on our list for DC 3 (who turned out to be a DD)

DontCallMeBaby · 19/08/2008 23:20

My brother's name too. He is now Tim on all his documentation and hasn't answered to Timothy in years. I think my parents found it a particularly satisfying name to shout when he was being awful, better than my monosyllabic bark of a name (DD has a three syllable name and I can confirm that too is extremely satisfying to yell in moments of frustration).

DB did get a bit of Nice But Dim (not least cos, well, he kind of is, bless him) but he's also 6'6" so doesn't tend to get ribbed about anything now.

He has NEVER been Timmy. That would be the dog in The Famous Five.

turquoise · 19/08/2008 23:19

Tim is good but Timothy's rather awful and Timmy is forever Spoilt Bastard to me.

loler · 19/08/2008 23:15

Dh is tim - just asked him what he thinks of his name. He said he alway want to be called Paul .

I think Tim's nice but don't like Timothy - dc all laugh whenever dh gets called timothy

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 19/08/2008 23:04

Yes and I work with several, too!

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/08/2008 23:01

crikey, 4 Tims in a row !

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/08/2008 23:01

my brother's name too - I like it !

Dalrymps · 19/08/2008 23:00

I love it, it is my bro's name although we've always called him Tim.

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 19/08/2008 22:56

I like it - it's my brother's name too, although he insists on being called Tim. He was long past school (probably the worst place for teasing) by the time Tim Nice But Dim was on the telly.

I know two small Timothies (Timothys?). One is always known as Timmy (yuk, in my view, but each to their own) and the other always as Timothy. His parents are keen to keep it that way but I suspect that once he gets to nursery or school the tide of Tim will be impossible to turn back!

insywinsyspider · 19/08/2008 22:24

love it, my brother is Timothy but only ever called Tim (he's 27 now), its tradional and not really popular at mo which is nice - he did get Tim nice but dim comment but kids will think of anything, not a good reason not to chose a name you like
have to agree Timmy is awful - he's the special needs boy from south park wrong

muppetgirl · 19/08/2008 20:07

lol FO

Troutpout · 19/08/2008 20:06

Language Timothy!
Sorry thats what first springs to mind

ForeverOptimistic · 19/08/2008 20:02

Yes muppetgirl I am loving all of the names on the name threads at the moment!

Timothy is an underused classic. It was my late step-fathers name but I think it would be too difficult for me to use it because of biological dad & father in law.

findtheriver · 19/08/2008 19:58

Tim is a great name. It's a name that suits teens and adults too. Timmy is awful, I agree

muppetgirl · 19/08/2008 19:58

I wouldn't chose Christopher after teaching one boy who was learning to write his name. His friend sam had 3 letters S-A-M poor Christopher said 'Oh, what after o?' in a very exasperated voice!

Tim would be great to spell thinking from a Jolly Phonics perspective...

Sexonlegs · 19/08/2008 19:57

My friend has a 4 yr old ds and she refers to him as Timmy, which I think is just God awful.

georgimama · 19/08/2008 19:56

My first love was a Tim so I'm biased, I love it but couldn't use it.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/08/2008 19:55

The one that I know is a genius, so we haven't been affected by the 'nice but' tag.

Unusual choice for a baby these days, but maybe that means that it's due for a revival.

muppetgirl · 19/08/2008 19:55

I'm really not surprised ForeverOptimistic!
