Is this better as a nickname for something or is it fine alone do you think?

We know a 9 yr old Hetty- it's short for Hester in her case. Love it. Not sure about giving a shortened version as full name though.

mathanxiety · 14/08/2009 02:37

I knew a Hettie, and for some reason I like that spelling.

Thunderduck · 11/08/2009 11:52

I don't like it.

To me it always sounds like a Sloane-y nickname along the lines of Tiggy but thats probably because I knew a very Sloaney Hetty at college (I think it was short for Henrietta in her case).

AramintaCane · 11/08/2009 10:16

love it

magbags · 11/08/2009 10:14

I love Hetty, it was on my shortlist if this baby (due shortly) had been a girl.

MamaLazarou · 10/08/2009 09:33

I used to work in an old ladies' shoe shop. We specialised in really sturdy, wide-fitting shoes in varying shades of beige. The most hideous, old-fashioned design we sold was called hettie. Only people with very bad bunions bought hetties.

oldspeckledtam · 09/08/2009 17:01

If my DS had been a DD I was going to use Heather, with Hetty as the NN. I love it. It's my mil's middle name too so would have earned me brownie points!

boodleboot · 07/08/2009 19:48

I think it is perfectly fine on its own.....i do love it as a shortening of Harriet tho....

AbbeyA · 20/09/2008 22:22

Needs to be a nickname.

I like it but probably prefer Hattie.

I I ever convice dp ttc dc2 then Harriet/Hattie is my name choice.

Twelvelegs · 20/09/2008 20:53

I like Hattie better.

Cocodrillo · 20/09/2008 20:51

Our Hettie's name is short for something, but when people use the full version I do find myself thinking who she? I actually much prefer the nickname, but am glad she has the long name to look serious on CVs etc with. Also makes her sound v posh and intelligent.

AllieBongo · 20/09/2008 15:57

i love it.

Hettym · 20/09/2008 15:55

am I the only person in the world who's name is just Hetty alone?

LadyThompson · 19/08/2008 12:58

Hetty is lovely, either as the full name or short for Henrietta.

It's got the edge on Hatty/Hattie for me.

gladders · 19/08/2008 12:19

Had an Auntie Hettie - twas short for Esther...

eandh · 19/08/2008 07:45

I love it but dd2 is Hattie so am biased (we were going to put Harriet on her birth certificate but decided just to go with Hattie)

Slouchy · 19/08/2008 07:43

I know a Hester who is always known as Hetty.
fab names both.

Reginaphilangy · 18/08/2008 19:40

Better as a nn IMO

pointydog · 18/08/2008 18:46

Ooh, I like Hetty as a diminutive of Heather ... My friend's SIL is Heather and gets called Hebs which I'm not so keen on - each to their own tho.
