yuck
no to both
they are surnames!

gladders · 03/09/2008 10:49

would go for mason - know of one and he's v sweet, but not really my cup of tea.

agree with the idea that you need something short and sweet for such a long surname? Tom, Jack and James all good but prob not to your taste?

Anglepoise · 03/09/2008 10:20

They are occupations, surely? Chandler? Wheelwright?

I don't hate them quite as much as everyone else, but agree that you have a lovely surname and classic names go much better.

PuppyMonkey · 03/09/2008 06:48

Very American sounding. Not really my cup of tea.

You have a great surname - pick something a bit more classic. I like Johnny Bravender if that helps - sounds like a private detective....

Blandmum · 03/09/2008 06:45

Neither I think they are both horrible

Hi my Surname is also Bravender..I have two boys Jack and Thomas. My brothers and sisters are called Julie, Angela, Lisa, Micheal, John, Paul and I am called Anthony. All straight forward names, which I believe go well with Bravender.

falcon · 19/08/2008 15:39

I like both but prefer Mason and they are both first names, though perhaps a little more commonly used in America.

Heated · 19/08/2008 15:26

Better as a mn.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/08/2008 15:22

Neither, but am sure we could help you come up with something better.

Mason the better of the two, my nephew is called that - I am more of the old fashioned school myself, but each to their own, it's not our kid after all......Edward Bravender sounds lovely though! As does Arthur Bravender

Tortington · 19/08/2008 15:16

neither unless you are american and its your mothers maiden name

kitsmummy · 19/08/2008 15:16

Mason is ultimate chav imo

hellebores · 19/08/2008 13:10

'mason is number 55 on last year's top 100', no - not exactly obscure at all - but rather a case of too common, combined with trying too hard.

Your children do not need these overloaded non-names to make them stand out. These days - it's the plain trad ones which seem to mark them out as different in a sea of Kais, Harrisons, Jaydens, Madisons, Rubys and the like.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear - I know my views are rather old fashioned on this but it's pushy parent before the child is even born imho.

(gallops off on high horse)

chandellina · 19/08/2008 12:55

i like both, but i do have a thing for surname sounding names.
don't let these spoilsports get to you though - Mason is number 55 on last year's top 100 UK names - not exactly obscure.
I also grew up knowing a Carter - the name has been around a long time and is perfectly acceptable IMO.

TwoWindyDays · 19/08/2008 12:53

Mason

Lots of surnames started out as first names, I dont see why it should matter if its a surname anyway!

jellybeans · 19/08/2008 11:15

Don't like either but Mason is the lesser awful of the two, sorry.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/08/2008 11:02

she did ask though and will be grateful for honest replies I'm sure as will the baby if spared these names. Still, is a bit galling to have your choices not liked

EffiePerine · 19/08/2008 11:02

Carter Bravender sounds a bit comic

Mason Bravender sounds like a legal firm

wheresthehamster · 19/08/2008 11:01

No - not just surnames but occupations as well.

With your surname something plain - Lou, Louie, Leo, Max etc
