Does this sound as stupid to other people as it does to me?

We've chosen the middle name of Denise - his granddad's name was Denis and it's a name that recurs through the family.

He wants to give the first name of Nerys (said like Denise, but with an N).

Nerys Denise? He can't see the problem, said it rolls off the tongue! Someone help me make him see sense!

Nehreece is def madeup!

MrsMattie · 11/08/2008 21:24

Agree re: Dennis Pennis. Don't do it!

1wish · 11/08/2008 21:24

Is Nehreece abit of a made up name then? Because i love it (thinking of stealing for my pfb if i ever get one )

Collision · 11/08/2008 21:23

Sounds ok as you would want to say it but to rhyme it would be ridiculous!

Well, I would say your baby your call. I have very good Welsh friend called Nerys and she is Ner- is. Look it up on Welsh baby names website for pronunciation if in doubt. Say no. u-huh.

I.E. Spell it Nerise if you want it pronounced like Denise. Otherwise it's wrong.

edam · 11/08/2008 21:18

My Dad's side of the family are all Welsh and would say 'Neriss' - perhaps it's a North Wales/S Wales thing?

Anyway, Nerys Denise is NOT a good mix. Just say 'no'!

1wish · 11/08/2008 21:17

Tell your DH you like Laura Dora or Amy Jamie instead Tink and see how he reacts It's the same principle if you're going to pronouce it that way

TinkerBellesMum · 11/08/2008 21:16

Even Neris Denise is a difficult combo.

My book says Neh-rees and it's how the Welsh Nerys's I know say it.

It's not Ner-ise either. Just spell it the way you want it maybe?!!

Quattrocento · 11/08/2008 21:14

I'm only voting for animal names now that I've read someone is planning to call their DS Bear.

So I think you should drop Nerys and Denise and go for Running Deer.

Please if you choose it don't say Nerys like Ner-eeeese. Lovely Welsh name : Ner-iss. Have been told by a non Welsh that I said it wrongly and I was just horrified!

Two together sound baaad, but when will you say them together? Know what you mean though...

TinkerBellesMum · 11/08/2008 21:12

Thanks 1wish, that's just how it's said.

He just asked about doing it the other way around! He's upset now cause Mum just said no! I'm actually not sure how serious he's beeing

I was just going by how tink was saying it was pronouced (sp) which will be the way she will say it i imagine.

If it doesn't rhyme then that would be fine, but i got the impression OP thought it did

Ledodgy · 11/08/2008 21:06

Nerys is pronounced Ner-is isn't it?

So is it Nerys said like Ner reece (pretty name btw) but that would be silly with Denise as a middle name

NotAnOtter · 11/08/2008 21:01

i think it sounds fine

Nerys is adorable

Denise is like Nice in france stick with it x

Bronze · 11/08/2008 21:01

I don't think they rhyme either but don't sound right together.

DorrisMcWhirter · 11/08/2008 21:00

Could you go for a variation. Just had a quick look at baby name sites and Denni is amongst them. Not sure I'm that keen but may be a compromise. (I'd always think of that BLondie tune!)

Ledodgy · 11/08/2008 20:58

*rhyme

Ledodgy · 11/08/2008 20:58

It doesn't ryme as such but it does sound like Nerys da neice if you're a scouser like me.

Hecate · 11/08/2008 20:57

It is a really stupid combination, imo.
