The Eddie Stobart Method (for girls)

I have struck upon a rich seam indeed.

Struggling to find the perfect name for your daughter?

Torn between traditional or unusual?

Tearing your hair out on the mn baby name threads?

Use the Eddie Sobart Method.

Get in car.

Drive on motorway.

Come alongside Eddie Stobart lorry.

Read name of lorry on front (R) hand corner (just in front of drivers door, near the bumper).

There you go.

You cannot back out when you have seen your name. The method is all about chance and living on the edge.

For those of you who do not drive, or are not living in the UK, or do not like motorways, or trucks, I have come up with the variant MN Eddie Stobart Method.

Helpful mners will post on this here thread the name they have just spotted on their most recent journey.

To get the ball rolling I give you

Shona

We always play 'guess the name' as we approach a ES lorry, and the closest wins (I say closest, once one of us got a name that started with the same letter, that's the closest it's ever been)

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/08/2008 16:34

I passed 2 ES trucks this afternoon! Was shooting past the first one too quickly to note the name (wasn't entirely sure whereabouts I was supposed to be looking), but I slowed down alongside the second to be sure of spotting it.

So ladies, I give you......

Amber Jade.

Eddie, Willie or Norbert. Its a pin choice.

Flibbertyjibbet · 10/08/2008 22:51

If its a boy you just call it Eddie then?

Bronze · 10/08/2008 22:49

Slubberdegullion · 10/08/2008 20:38

ahem Austo-Hungarian Prince. Or maybe not even that, perhaps Prussian?

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 10/08/2008 20:36

Norbert Bloody Teeth. He is sounding more like a 13th Century Austrian Prince all the time.

BellaBear · 10/08/2008 20:36

DH (reading over shoulder) also suggests that for any wusses, you could try it out with a pet first, and then work up to a child if you are happy with the result. Although it would be annoying if your cat ends up Elizabeth and your daughter Trixibelle. Or somesuch.

BellaBear · 10/08/2008 20:34

PS Cracking thread!

BellaBear · 10/08/2008 20:34

dh says Norbert Dentressangle means Norbert BloodyTeeth but babel fish doesn't quite agree. Close, though.

Slubberdegullion · 10/08/2008 20:28

Well fantasy ds1 is now Norbert Dentressangle de Gullion (gawd he sounds like an Austrian Prince)

and fantasy dd3 is now Shona Bernice Goldilocks (don't ask...we are following a Tolkein theme with names) de Gullion.

ooh she sounds snazzy

OP posts:
NorbertDentressangle · 10/08/2008 20:12

It does sound a bit like like a Viz character when pronounced in the very English way.

Slubber -I love the idea of naming a fantasy child (not sure I'd go for Norbert though)

Slubberdegullion · 10/08/2008 19:56

It was very much Norbert in my head until Califrau proffered the correct pronounciation.

Norbert is still a strong and vital sounding name. Fantasy ds1 still gets it.

gastronaught · 10/08/2008 19:28

It was always pronouced Norberrr Dontresongle to me.

Slubberdegullion · 10/08/2008 18:44

Oh OK Norberrrrrrrrrgchhhhhhh (= gallic phlemmy sound at the end) I believe you that you are not a haulage spotter

OP posts:
NorbertDentressangle · 10/08/2008 18:39

oh no, busted by Slubberegullion.

No, real reason is numerous holidays driving around Europe (mainly France and Belgium) and also acquired knowledge from DP (he has non-UK European parents so was most probably a "spotter" travelling around Europe as a child).
