At last I have thought of another boys name I like!

If you have read any of my other threads, you will know that the only name DH and I agree on for a boy is Harry and although it is a fine name (if a little popular at the mo) I have doubts because of family reasons.

The only other name I have like is Dexter and I just don't know if I'm brave enough to use it. For every 1 person that likes the name I seem to find 5 that hate it.

I guess really I am probaby more comfortable with more traditional names.

Now I have had a thought today about using Edward. I have allways discounted because I don't like Eddy but how about if I shorten to Ted or Teddy when he is little?
What do you think?

yes, most of the time! when he's norty though he is very much an arTHur......his brother is the one that calls him arf, arfs of arfa most of the time. Arthur calls his bro eds, eddy or EDWARD! (said at 100 decibels)....

Flossyjim · 08/08/2008 14:37

Neeerly3......Do YOU call your son Arfa?

Flossyjim · 08/08/2008 14:34

Teddy is lovely. I have always considered Teddy if I was to have a 3rd boy, as it goes well with the two I already have - Jimmy & Lenny. As does Ronnie!! Edward is a classic name, I know a few adult Edwards, one of them is known as Ned, and he's lovely.

Neeerly3 · 08/08/2008 14:33

we call our edward ward too....our Arthur is Arfa - considering changing it by deedpole, as EVERYONE says it with an F not a TH!

FlirtyThirty · 08/08/2008 14:25

Dexter sounds like a dog to me...sorry. Like Harry though!

Collision · 08/08/2008 13:21

Ned is mega!

Dexter is not and will become a bit bleurgh! in a few years, I think.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 08/08/2008 13:13

If this one is a boy he will be Edward - known as Ned, but I love Ted as well

Dexter I can never decide on some days I like it, some days I'm not keen... have heard lots worse though!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/08/2008 13:07

Love Edward and Dexter both...

ghosty · 08/08/2008 03:44

DS is Edward, was shortened to Teddy from 4 days old and is now, at 8, known as Ted to his friends. Cool kid, cool name

zsos · 08/08/2008 03:05

Edward can be shortened to Ward also

Tas1 · 07/08/2008 19:40

If you like the name Harry, what about Harrison.

BananaSkin · 07/08/2008 14:21

I love Ned

mummyc · 07/08/2008 00:38

How long do you have to go Eleta?

We got down to a shortlist in the end and named our DS the one that suited him best once he was born... figured we'd taken time naming our cats to suit their appearance and personality and thought our baby deserved the same courtesy

We had middle names (for girl or boy) all agreed then a short list, pretty much all with the same letter to avoid fuck ups with the intials.....ended up with a little Arthur - because it's a family name and was really unusual, although it seems to be getting much more popular

Only the list got chucked out in hospital so we'll have to start again when / if we have another

tweeni · 07/08/2008 00:21

SquiffyHock · 06/08/2008 23:19

My Edward was always going to be Teddy when I was pregnant but it has never suited him - he now gets Edward, Eddy, Ed & Bear in equal use!

OurHamsterisevil · 06/08/2008 20:08

I love Dexter. I like Edward too, but from threads on her eit seems to be getting popular.

chandellina · 06/08/2008 19:42

love edward and Ted/Teddy.
can't use it myself because it's the name of my ex boyfriend, who is now married to my best friend. It just wouldn't work!
We also seriously considered Dexter but it didn't feel right in the end.

3andnomore · 06/08/2008 19:38

I like Edward See no reason why you would have to shorten it for a young child, tbh...but that is just me

Communion · 06/08/2008 19:29

Our max is Maximilian.

Maximilian and Edward, known as Eddie and Max.

I think Arthur would go well with this (not pg, just specualting)

also like Gregory and Theodore.

laura325630 · 06/08/2008 12:30

I love the name Dexter. If dd had been a boy she would have been Dexter!

Neeerly3 · 06/08/2008 12:29

is Max short for something? We like Tilly for a girl, but would 'name' her Matilda. Max i guess is Maxwell or Maximillian?

Communion · 06/08/2008 12:05

I have an Eddie, we call him Edward bear.
I obviously love the name. His best friend at sxhool is called Teddy!

(Neeerly3 I also have a Max, and Arthur is our name for any potential 3rd boy!!)

Neeerly3 · 06/08/2008 11:51

i have an edward - who is eddy, but he suits it - his twin bro is Arthur and we are now struggling to think of another boys name that goes with them should dc3 be a boy.....

Dexter is cool, but i am watching Dexter on the FX channel and he's a serial killer, so not sure i'd use it, even though he's lush!

SJLTM · 06/08/2008 11:45

soph28 I know, I can watch him for hours

soph28 · 05/08/2008 20:18

Edward is ok but don't like Ed or Eddy at all. Teddy or Bear are cut nick names. Bear Gryls is gorgeous
