Well it isn't the name of someone I know but I came across it in a magazine where parents were asked to write in if their child had an unusual name.

I doubt I'll ever forget this one, Jackie Chan Ninja Soulblade.

His brother had an equally outlandish name too.

Pretzl and Lark for a girl. I was hoping somebody round my way would name their daughter Beyonce for the 'hee hee' factor, but, so far, not one.
I work in a university and we have a number of African students with names like Justice or Temperance.

Loritycs, friends of my parents have a boy and a girl, Mercedes & Bentley

merryandmad · 03/08/2008 10:52

I know a Friday (man) and a Precious (little girl)

belgo · 03/08/2008 10:52

Apparently Spain has very strict laws about what you name your child.

Loriycs · 03/08/2008 10:50

yes, i have a Spanish friend called Mercedes and its a usual name over there, but over here it sounds like the the parents are just trying too hard(unless they are spanish of course)

belgo · 03/08/2008 10:48

yes Mercedes might be a girl's name but Mercedes-Summer is incredibly unusual which is what this thread is asking for.

I'm annoyed that there is a car called 'Elise' as it was on my names list.

CoteDAzur · 03/08/2008 10:46

Mercedes IS a girl's name! The car was named after the daughter of the financier who invested in the car company at the time. ("I'll give you the money but you need to name the cars after my little girl").

If anyone read the book "Count of Monte-Cristo", the guy's lover who marries another man is called "Mercedes".

Loriycs · 03/08/2008 10:44

you've reminded me, I used to know Finnish girl called Lenita, i always liked her name.

belgo · 03/08/2008 10:39

yes soap operas have a lot to answer for when it comes to influencing the names of a generation.

Alfie springs to mind.

Loriycs · 03/08/2008 10:38

I think maybe because they are the type of names used on programmes like neighbours
