Hello all... I need some help. My DH and I have settled on calling our ds Legend Cougar or Cougar Legend. Which do you like better?

The only other option we will think of is Xander. Thanks for your help.

James Legend is very nice... maybe...

Cougar is too closely linked to women and sex.

MeMySonAndI · 31/07/2008 09:24

What about Leon? still has a cat in it but sounds far more sophisticated (I think )

Drop the Legend bit, though. My sister was named after my mother, and my mother after her aunt. The three of them absolutely HATED that name.

True nined, teens always choose who their parents would have them choose. Oh and we in the black community don't get spots very often. I said Cougar not Leopard.

I like Xander by the way.

I think that crazy, distinctive names work best when tempered a little by a more conventional name (i.e. the John Cougar one). The two together result in a clash. A sensory overload.

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 09:15

Oh, and zippiti I thought the "middle-class" sensibility on MN would preclude you from being so base as to deem us average dull and stupid, cheers!

He could have a great career in WWF without having to change his name!

ninedragons · 31/07/2008 09:13

More than sniggering, zippi. If my DD ever brought home a spotty 16-year-old boy and said Mum, this is my boyfriend Legend Cougar, I would laugh so hard I would wee on the floor. And then she would be too embarrassed ever to bring him over again, so problem solved.

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 09:13

I think that Cougar Legend Smith has quite a ring to it. I suppose fabio would rather that we call him Xenophobe?

cremolafoam · 31/07/2008 09:09

there are lots of other nice cat names out there
like Jaguar or Panther
I think Cougar is one of those names that might go rancid don't you?

zippitippitoes · 31/07/2008 09:06

the only reason celebs call their kids daft names is because they want them to inherit the value of gthe celebs celebrity so they will profit from it by always being known and remembered

so everyone knows peaches geldof

it can only be one person with the name peaches

for average dull and stupid people to do it there is no gain just a lot of pain...mostly of the sniggering variety

FabioThatFirggingCat · 31/07/2008 09:01

In America, they pronounce it B'naaarrrrd which isn't as good as Bernud, is it misdee?

What about Rattlesnake Myth?

misdee · 31/07/2008 08:58

Bernard!

Shitehawk · 31/07/2008 08:58

A unique name is one thing.

A unique name which will make him the butt of jokes and bullying is quite another.

There are plenty of strong names out there which wouldn't make him sound like a wrestler. And which wouldn't have him cursing you for them somewhere down the line.

How seriously would you take your bank manager/solicitor/plumber if he was introduced to you as Cougar Legend Smith?

ruty · 31/07/2008 08:58

plenty of Americans called John - are you sure you aren't 14 and live in Croydon?

ruddynorah · 31/07/2008 08:56

it's a great name. you could team it with a middle name roger. randy roger. what surname will they have? stfani or rossendale?

randy roger rossendale.

has a nice ring to it. very wholesome too.

zippitippitoes · 31/07/2008 08:56

its not they arent popular its they arent names

is your partner henry cooper

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 08:55

That's funny, because my father-in-law is called Randy

Isn't there a singer called John Cougar Mellencamp?

That sounds OKish (in a way to out there way for me), Cougar as a middle name. It's the Legend bit that is bleuugh. It isn't a name.

I don't believe that John will lead to endless ribbing about name.

But John is not the only normal name. Many to choose from.

FabioThatFirggingCat · 31/07/2008 08:55

That's lovely an' all, but no matter your reasoning, not many on this thread like your names.

Your baby, call him what you like.

bristols · 31/07/2008 08:54

Cougar makes me think of Top Gun. Great film but not a good name for a baby. Xander is very nice, though.

Babstefani · 31/07/2008 08:53

I realise that these names aren't that popular, but don't these same boards suggest things like Topaz and Fin? Isn't the point of these to be unique? We are just trying to incorporate a tribute with a unique name.

OP posts:
ruddynorah · 31/07/2008 08:53

i think you should go the other way and call him englebert... or even better, randy. that's a nice all american name. best of luck gwen.
