Topaz? or Wallis for my third (hopefully) girl? Or neither ? All feedback gratefully received........

TTC third baby. Hoping for (another) girl. My other 2 girls have slightly unusual but pretty names and need something that 'goes' (so am not considering things like Rachel, Anna, Chloe etc) pretty as they may be. What do you think......or are Topaz and Wallis a stretch too far? My DH also likes Cameron (for a girl) - he wanted it for DH1 and 2, but I didn't go for it.

I'd prefer another girl and so would DH. We just like having girls (and each time I've been pg DH would go around muttering 'please be a girl').
I have lots of nephews and love them dearly. But just like the idea of 3 sisters. And besides I have so many girls clothes and toys I'd be gutted to have to start buying a whole load of blue stuff and trains and other boy stuff (not even sure what??)
Having said all that if I do have a boy, apart from being speechless in shock it'll no doubt be an absolute blessing and I'll be delighted.
Just would prefer a girl (if it were possible to choose, which it's not).
Although did read something the other day on MN about METHODS to ensure you get a girl. .
Not sure whether to try them or not......

Cameron for a girl is rather cute, as is Mackenzie

Wallis, not too sure about that, prefer Wallace spelling but then that's "More cheese grommit?!"

Topaz.... errr noooooooooooooooo sorry! Sounds like a dodgy Danielle Steele novel

I had Topaz on my original list for ds (had he been a girl) but now I look back on it and wonder if the endless reading of baby name books had gone to my head.

It is pretty though.

Um no, definitely not Magenta!

I know a couple of Ruby's, an Amber, a Jade and my SIL I think is about to call her new baby Saffron. I also know someone (friend of a friend) who has a Topaz who gets shortened to Topy. Which I quite like.

And as for Tesco's - well, it's definitely Sainsburys for us, darling!!!
Topaz said in a Scottish accent is quite pretty I think. Although my MIL would no doubt have a FIT!
(Mind you her kids have rubbish names IMO) - very boring.

Topaz is a 'Hippie name' along with Saphire, Jade, Ruby, Amber, Jasmine
I think Saphire and Jasmine are pretty but the others have become a bit 'chavvie' nowdays. During the late 60's/ 70's the hippie names had a cool peace and love feel to them. i have a friend called saffron- and shes a love child from that era. But today they have become wannabee alternative names and hence become common.Topaz may have ben lovely 40 years ago but with todays poor diction dont go there. As another mumsnetter put it ' imagine calling out Topaz in Tesco's' It will be said by many as Topaazzzz and shortened to paz. Dont do it to her.

Has been mentioned before, but thank you for the positive response (there haven't been very many!!!!)

Topaz is still my fave. Have gone of Wallis. Do like Bay and Felicity and some others too.......

I haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if someone's said this before - but Topaz in Dodie Smith's "I Capture the Castle" is way cool in my book.

Don't like Topaz myself, but it doesn't have to be a hindrance. There's a journalist - I think she's something senior at the Torygraph now - called Topaz Amoore. Now there's a name to conjure with. But doesn't seem to have held her back...

Felicity Fox!? Sounds more like a Bond Girl!

I know a girl with a daughter called Bay. I like it. It's soft but not weak if that makes sense.

I thought of Bay too, it's very pretty, but think it needs a longish surname. There's a Bay Garnett isn't there? Felicity is great. I knew one at school,but only one, and she was Flicka. The meaning is lovely and it would work in lots of countries!

Oh DarrellRivers I do like you! Which reminds me I must look out my old Mallory Towers books for my eldest DD.

Perhaps Topaz Felicity would be nice?

Or Bay Munro for a boy?
Or Blair?

(but I don't do boys. Well, not yet anyway......)

Onyx - um, I don't think so. Fine for a pretend friend tho

Wallis - don't like it myself, but my first thought was Wallis Simpson, not the shop (Is Wallis-the-shop frumpy and middle-aged, btw? Oh dear! )
Wallace (and Grommit - don't go there)

Your second attempts were better (IMHO). I like both Allegra and Felicity (the one I knew at school shortened it to Flick). Agree that Ruby is very popular now. DD currently has a 'pretend friend' called Onyx. Not sure if that would work as a 'real name' if you're looking for an unusual '[semi-]precious stone' name. (I wouldn't choose it myself, but I have far more 'bog-standard' tastes to you!)

I'd have been horrified by Esmerelda until a few weeks ago, but I met a very nice one (shortened to Esme, which is a name I like in its own right) recently and it could grow on me.
