I know an Anya, doesn't get called Anna but always makes me think of potatoes I think it's a lovely name though.

DiscoDizzy · 16/07/2008 07:04

I know an Anya, noone calls her Anna

tommiles001 · 16/07/2008 06:58

It's a lovely name, basically a Russian form of Anna (which is kind of dated). Anya is getting popular in the last decade: baby name Anya

Pinkchampagne · 15/07/2008 23:12

I love the name Anya

madmarriedNika · 15/07/2008 23:05

"Anya" could also be "Aine"- which is Irish- meaning "splendor, radiance, brilliance." Fairly common in Ireland and pronounced the same way as Anya. I think it's lovely.

Ohireallyshouldnt · 14/07/2008 16:14

Something ending in a y or a longer name (like Elizabeth, but not that).

Sophie, Poppy, Lilly, Jasmine, Violet, Frances, Rachel, Megan, Caroline, Emily, Ruby, Kitty.....

Ohireallyshouldnt · 14/07/2008 16:06

Durrr!

littlewoman · 14/07/2008 15:36

It's short for Oh I really Shouldn't. I was replying to you

pgwithnumber3 · 14/07/2008 13:14

I think it you say it quickly then any name always sounds a bit strange. I have a Maya Owens and that can roll into one if I'm not careful!

I think we can get away with it, its not awful together.

I ran it past my mum, she loves it! That's the most important person sorted then!

What middle name would go with Anya? I already have Elisabeth and Rose as middle names for my DDs.

Littlewoman, whats OIRS mean? (sorry, new here!)

littlewoman · 14/07/2008 11:27

But the more I say it, the more I like them together.

littlewoman · 14/07/2008 11:26

Oh, um, it does a bit OIRS

Ohireallyshouldnt · 14/07/2008 11:22

I also have too many vowels in the first and surnames, so have the same problem... I lOVE the name Anya(my names Anna), but, and i hesitate to say it, might Anya Owens, said quickly, sound a little bit too like "On your own"?

littlewoman · 14/07/2008 11:20

Or Anya Rowens

NotQuiteCockney · 14/07/2008 11:18

Yeah, it sounds a bit odd, with that surname. As littlewoman says, the two names blend together, and you end up saying Ann Yowens.

littlewoman · 14/07/2008 11:16

That's the problem when the christian name ends with a vowel and the surname begins with one. They can tend to run into each other. Mine does the same. But maybe it just sounds strange because you're not used to hearing the name Anya Owens. Repeat it till you are used to it, and then decide, maybe?

pgwithnumber3 · 14/07/2008 11:12

Does it go with the surname OWENS though? Anya Owens?

I think its lovely. My DB called me that when he was a toddler as he couldn't say Andrea.

Anya is how the Russians pronounce Anna ( I've a friend by this name. I call her Anna, her Russian friend calls her Anya). It's not a 'no-name'. Honestly.

wrinklytum · 14/07/2008 01:27

I think it is a very pretty name.

Elkat · 14/07/2008 01:21

Yes, I think Anya is lovely

pgwithnumber3 · 13/07/2008 23:01

Someone tell me if it goes or not with my surname - PLEASE!

OP posts:
pgwithnumber3 · 13/07/2008 22:56

Shit, just said it with my surname, it doesn't really go!

Anya Owens - doesn't sound quite right.
